5 Actors We Would Love To See As Wolverine: Logan is the alias adopted by a man named James Howlett. Logan was a mutant whose powers involved accelerated healing, improved sense as well as claws made of bone in both his hands. Due to the beast-like nature of his powers, Logan came to be known as the ‘Wolverine’. With these powers, came a number of problems that Logan had to deal with, from being cursed with berserker rage to making enemies over the many years he lived.
Wolverine differs from most of the other Marvel Comics characters in many ways. One of the most important is his sense of morality. Wolverine can be best described only as a morally grey character. Even though most of his actions are what can be considered as good, there are times when he does not care how he achieves a certain end. Wolverine is a ruthless killer and does not hold any qualms about killing people.
The Wolverine’s cinematic counterpart incited many mixed feelings among the audience. Played by the extremely talented actor, Hugh Jackman, Wolverine makes his first appearance on the big screen in the film X-Men (2000). The X-Men movies are notorious for their all-over-the-place timelines and messy plot. However, considering how well-loved the character of Logan is, people had some heavy expectations of it. It would take a considerable time before Jackman’s Logan would finally take his place in people’s hearts. Wolverine has consistently appeared in many of the X-Men films, and he is also the only character to get his own solo trilogy focusing solely on his storyline, with the first film X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009). The movie covered the beginning of Logan’s journey and how he came to become the Wolverine. However, this film could not fulfil people’s expectations and tanked at the box office.
In 2013, the second movie of the trilogy was released. The Wolverine (2013) did considerably better at the box office than its predecessor though not by much. The film sees Logan battling with enemies while coming to terms with losing his healing abilities and dealing with the grief of having killed Jean Grey, whom he loved. The last film in this trilogy, Logan (2017) was a huge hit among the fans. The film serves as a way for the fans to bid adieu to one of their favourite characters and follows the end of Logan’s journey.
The Wolverine became so influential and popular, largely due to Hugh Jackman’s dedication to doing justice to his character. Jackman was incredibly successful in bringing the nuances that made Logan such a complex character to the screen. The fans were as connected to the character as they were to the actor portraying him. It is almost unimaginable to see someone else take on this role in the near future, though, it is very likely it may happen soon. With the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s introduction of the Multiverse and the Disney-Fox merger, the appearance of the X-Men is only a matter of when. So, let us take a look at the 5 actors who we think would be perfect as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s new Wolverine.
5 Actors We Would Love To See As Wolverine
Henry Golding
Henry Golding is a Malaysian-British actor and model. Golding is best known for his role as Nick Young in the romantic comedy, ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ (2018), based on the best-selling novel of the same name. He also starred in the thriller ‘A Simple Favor’ (2018) alongside Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively. Golding has also been a part of a few TV Shows.
Henry Golding would fit the criteria of Logan almost perfectly in every sense. It would certainly be an interesting switch from the charming persona everyone witnessed in ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ (2018). Though the actor has made a lasting mark in the romantic comedy genre, this role could be a challenging role for him to expand his horizons and move out of his comfort zone.
Cillian Murphy
Cillian Murphy is an Irish actor, who was also a lead singer as well as guitarist in a band called ‘Sons of Mr. Green Geene’. His acting credits are incredibly varied. Murphy is best known for his role as the ruthless gang leader Thomas Shelby in the British drama ‘Peaky Blinders’. Murphy has also worked with Christopher Nolan in his Batman trilogy.
For Murphy, playing the role of a morally grey character like Logan would not be much of a leap from his stint in the ‘Peaky Blinders’. The stoic, serious nature with a streak of ruthlessness is common between both of the characters. It would be a fun change to see Cillian Murphy in the superhero role, unlike the time he played a villain in Nolan’s Batman trilogy.
Pedro Pascal
Pedro Pascal is a Chilean-American actor. He has been a part of some of the most popular TV shows of all time like ‘Narcos’ and HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’.  Pascal also holds the title role in the Disney+ show, ‘The Mandalorian’ which is based in the Star Wars universe. He reprised this role in the recently released ‘The Book of Boba Fett’. Pascal is also set to appear in the TV adaptation of the video game, ‘The Last Of Us’ as Joel Miller.
Pedro Pascal would do an incredible job at bringing the character of Logan to screens once again. He has the range required to understand the character and do it justice. Especially after his role as The Mandolorian and the release of Logan (2017), where both the titular characters find themselves in a strange parental role, it is difficult not to draw comparisons.
John David Washington
John David Washington is an actor and a former football player. Some of his major roles were in films like Christopher Nolan’s Tenet (2020) and Sam Levinson’s drama ‘Malcolm and Marie’ (2021) alongside Zendaya in the main role.
Washington’s acting skills speak for themselves in every film he does. There is no doubt that he possesses exceptional talent. Watching him bring the beloved Logan and the hero Wolverine to life would simply be a treat for the audience.
Dev Patel
Dev Patel’s acting prowess has been evident since his debut in the film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ (2008). Since then, Patel has gone on to do many critically acclaimed films and has even won a number of awards. Some of his recent projects involve ‘Lion’ (2016) and ‘The Green Knight’ (2021).
Dev Patel’s appearance as Wolverine would be incredible to witness. Patel would successfully bring a new perspective and depth to the character.
These are obviously speculations and expectations for the eventual arrival of the Wolverine in the MCU. Though it must be said, no matter who is cast, this new era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will surely be unforgettable.
