The pressure to maintain all of that while still maintaining a decent social and family life can end up overwhelming anyone very easily. So, here is a small article on how to manage academic pressure and not exhaust yourself during this term.

Start From The Beginning

Most of the time, the pressure usually comes from delaying and procrastinating on work. Keeping things till the very end can end up causing more stress than usual. In order to avoid stress at the very end, it is necessary to start working on academic-related work as it is assigned. This applies to both, exams, as well as projects and assignment work, as both are equally important for academic growth. Studying from the very start of the semester can improve grades drastically and help avoid clutter during exams. Working on assignments as and when they are given can help in saving time during deadlines, and reduce the end-moment anxiety.

Maintain A Schedule

A rough timetable or a schedule of your day or week can go a long way in academic life. It gives a structure to your schedule and helps avoid phases of doing nothingness or getting bored. A schedule is not only necessary for maintaining good grades, but it also ensures that you get a good amount of break and rest in between classes, or jumping from one task to another. It is easy to be swayed away by work and studies and in return not make time for self-care and rest. This could result in exhaustion in the long term and will eventually end up affecting your academics. Hence, one should remove short periods of time to take a nap in a day or take a day off once a week. This can become difficult to do during classes, and therefore having a timetable can be beneficial.


There are multiple mediums through which schools, colleges, and universities provide notes and reading materials for classrooms. Keeping them together and in line can be a decently tough task at times. Especially if it is not being done immediately. The best solution to this is to organize notes and reading materials as you go. There should be a small section in your day that is dedicated to just making rough notes clearer and having everything in order. This will not only prove helpful during exams, or while studying, but even during lectures when you have to refer to something mentioned in a previous class.

Another thing that needs organizing is your desk. A study desk should be clean always without any mess or scattering around it. Investing in a pinboard or a whiteboard can be beneficial as you can have important details written on it. If you are using a laptop for studying, notes should be neatly organized there as well. It will save you time by keeping your mind away from wandering too much and getting distracted.

Healthy Sleep and Eating Habits

While maintaining good grades and all of that is important, what is equally or even more important is your health. In any case, your sleep or food schedule should not be compromised for studying. Eating a minimum of two healthy meals a day is a must. And getting a minimum of six to seven hours of sleep is necessary. Both these things will keep you energized throughout the day to work towards your academic goals. Compromising on either cannot only affect your academic growth but also result in severe health repercussions. It is best to maintain a healthy habit of eating regularly and on time, and getting a good night’s sleep each night.

Exercise and Meditation

Physical and mental health, both have equal effects on your academic life. Having a good balance is necessary and exercise can help maintain that balance. Doing any form of exercise for a minimum of 30 minutes each day is required for the body. There are multiple exercising options available. You can try and pick the one that works the best for you, and incorporate that into your routine. While exercise helps mainly with maintaining physical health, meditating can help with keeping the mind healthy and calm. Meditation requires time and patience to practice, hence starting slow with ten minutes a day is advisable, and then it can reach 30 minutes or more based on preference. Meditation also comes in different types, and there are ample ways to do it. You have to pick the one you enjoy the most and work towards it.

Set Realistic Goals

It is a given that in an academic setting, you and your family, friends, or teachers have certain expectations from you. This includes grades, attendance, class involvement, etc. Having expectations is normal and necessary, as it provides you with a goal to work towards. However, setting high and unreachable expectations for yourself will only result in disappointment for you. For example, someone sets a goal of having a 100 percent attendance in an academic year. It can be an achievable goal for some people, but that person may get overwhelmed easily. They still decide on attending lectures, even when they are completely exhausted and eventually get tired and have to take a week off to gather themselves back up. Trying to cross your own boundaries and limits is not a good idea, and should be avoided as much as possible.
