Netflix is turning up the anticipation for Wednesday Season 2 with the release of its first official trailer — and a surprise twist in its premiere schedule. The gothic-horror-comedy series starring Jenna Ortega as the morbidly sharp-witted Wednesday Addams will return in two parts, with the first batch of episodes arriving August 6, followed by the second on September 3.
A Darker Return to Nevermore Academy
The trailer offers a glimpse into Wednesday’s second year at Nevermore Academy, the elite boarding school for outcasts. Catherine Zeta-Jones reprises her role as Morticia Addams, who expresses surprise at her daughter’s eagerness to return. True to form, Wednesday retorts with dry sarcasm: “It’s like returning to the scene of a crime — I already know where the bodies are buried.” The trailer teases even more ominous mysteries and confirms that Wednesday will once again thrive in the darkness, asserting, “I do my best work in the dark.”
Familiar Faces and Fresh Additions
Jenna Ortega not only returns as the lead but also joins the production team as a producer this season. Fan-favorite characters are also making a comeback, including Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair, Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay, Moosa Mostafa as Eugene, Georgie Farmer as Ajax, Victor Dorobantu as Thing, and Fred Armisen as the eccentric Uncle Fester. The Addams family is back in full force too, with Luis Guzmán as Gomez, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley.
One of the most exciting additions is Steve Buscemi, who joins as Barry Dort, the new principal of Nevermore Academy. Also joining the cast as series regulars are Billie Piper (Scoop), Evie Templeton (Return to Silent Hill), Owen Painter (Tiny Beautiful Things), and Noah Taylor (Law & Order: Organized Crime).
Star-Studded Guest Appearances
The second season brings a treasure trove of guest stars, including:
- Christopher Lloyd, who famously played Uncle Fester in the 1991 Addams Family film
- Joanna Lumley (Absolutely Fabulous)
- Thandiwe Newton (Westworld)
- Frances O’Connor (The Missing)
- Haley Joel Osment (The Kominsky Method)
- Heather Matarazzo (The Princess Diaries)
- Joonas Suotamo (The Acolyte)
- Lady Gaga, in a currently undisclosed mystery role
A Shift in Scenery and Creative Force
Unlike the first season, which was filmed in Romania, Season 2 was shot in Ireland. Behind the scenes, Tim Burton returns to direct alongside Paco Cabezas and Angela Robinson. Series creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar continue their roles as showrunners and executive producers, teaming up again with Burton and a powerhouse lineup of producers including Ortega herself, Natalie Testa, Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman, Tommy Harper, and more. MGM Television remains the studio behind the production.
A Phenomenon Poised to Strike Again
The first season of Wednesday, released in 2022, became a cultural phenomenon and the most-viewed English-language series in Netflix’s history with over 252 million views. It spent an impressive 20 weeks in the platform’s global Top 10. The series launched Ortega into superstardom, a trajectory that continued with her appearance in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in 2024.
With a fresh mystery to unravel, an expanded ensemble cast, and even more darkly comedic drama, Wednesday Season 2 looks set to cast its spell once again.
