Fans of Black Clover can finally rejoice—after a long wait, a brand-new anime season has officially been confirmed. Crunchyroll made the exciting announcement during its industry panel at Anime Expo 2025, setting the stage for Asta’s magical journey to continue.
New Season Officially Announced
During the panel, Crunchyroll revealed that a new season of the Black Clover anime is in production and will stream exclusively on their platform. The announcement came with an official teaser trailer and a new visual, signaling a major return for the beloved shonen series. While the release date, voice cast, and full production details are still under wraps, one major name is already confirmed—Studio Pierrot is returning as the animation studio.
Creator Yūki Tabata Shares His Excitement
Alongside the announcement, Black Clover creator Yūki Tabata shared a heartfelt message with fans. Reflecting on the anime’s return and the series’ decade-long journey, Tabata wrote:
“The production of the long-awaited new anime season of Black Clover has been confirmed! I’m beyond ecstatic going into the new anime season after the super-passionate movie that came out! Thanks to all of you, Black Clover is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year! I definitely plan to keep this hype going!”
He expressed his gratitude to fans both in Japan and around the globe, promising a “powered-up anime” led by “the most awesome anime production staff.”
A Look Back at the Original Series
The original Black Clover anime first aired in Japan in October 2017. Initially scheduled for just 51 episodes, the show’s popularity led to multiple season extensions. It aired continuously until March 2021, ending with Episode 170. Tatsuya Yoshihara directed the series, which was animated by Studio Pierrot—known for its work on other long-running shonen titles like Naruto and Bleach.
Throughout its run, Black Clover was streamed globally by Crunchyroll with English subtitles, and Funimation provided the English dub. The anime also aired on Adult Swim’s Toonami block starting in December 2017, helping it reach a wider Western audience.
Sword of the Wizard King and the Manga’s Evolution
The anime’s return follows the release of the feature film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, which premiered in Japan and on Netflix globally in June 2023. The movie was met with enthusiasm and reignited interest in the franchise.
Meanwhile, the manga continues to thrive. Yūki Tabata began the Black Clover manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2015. In December 2023, the series transitioned to Jump Giga, a quarterly magazine. As of now, 36 volumes have been released in Japan. The series is available in English through Viz Media, both digitally and in print, while Shueisha’s MANGA Plus platform offers simultaneous digital releases for international fans.
Asta and Yuno’s Journey Is Far From Over
The upcoming season promises to dive back into the magical world where Asta, a boy born without magic, and Yuno, a gifted prodigy, strive to become the Wizard King. Armed with a rare Anti-Magic grimoire, Asta has never let his lack of magical ability stop him. As rivals and brothers in arms, Asta and Yuno’s shared dream continues to drive the heart of the story.
Crunchyroll’s official synopsis summarizes it best:
“In a world where magic is everything, Asta and Yuno are both found abandoned at a church on the same day. While Yuno is gifted with exceptional magical powers, Asta is the only one in this world without any. At the age of fifteen, both receive grimoires… Giving up is never an option!”
