10 Most Popular Comic Book Superheroes of All Time
There are countless comics characters but very few have been able to make a mark for themselves. But the question is, who is the most popular and biggest name or let’s say brand in the comics world. Is it Superman, Batman, Wolverine? Or is it some other comics character? So, here is a list of the 10 most popular Comic Book Superheroes of All Time.
10 Most Popular Comics Character of All Time
The first name in our list of most popular comic book superheroes is Batman. The dark justice seeking detective has been a fan favorite for the masses for decades and still continues to be one of the most prominent comics & entertainment figures. Be it his comics, movies or animation series everything has been super successful. The reason behind the success is Batman’s personality and aura of the character. The vigilante’s dark past and human vulnerabilities makes him a standout character amongst the typical superheroes.
Superman is arguably the biggest superhero in the comics universe. DC’s posterboy has established himself as the synonym of Superheroism and is considered an epitome of superpowers and supremacy. But Superman’s decline in the recent decades can’t be discounted. The decline has given his counterpart ‘Batman’ a free pass for the first spot. However, Superman’s legacy is unparalleled and more than enough to get him on the second spot. The man still holds a crazy fan following, he just needs a few good storylines to bounce back.
Wolverine is one of the most popular and successful comics characters of all time. Without any hesitation ‘Wolverine’ can be crowned as the biggest comic book hero of Marvel Comics. Characters like Spider-Man and Captain America give the mutant a tough challenge but Wolverine’s success in the comics is unmatched especially in the Marvel Comics. Wolverine is a brutal larger than life gray character which makes him a special and standout superhero in the Marvel Universe.
The 4th superhero on our list is Spider-Man, if the ranking was about top heroes of the current times then definitely Spidey would have been on the top 2 or maybe even on the first spot. Not because of his powers but because of his attitude and personality, Spider-Man’s character is far from the typical superheroes. The human side, simplicity and boy next door feel, easily connected him with the teens and youth. And made him one of the greatest superheroes of the current times.
5. Wonder Woman
The Amazonian (Wonder Woman) is arguably the oldest and perhaps the most iconic female superhero character in the comics world. Her character has established herself as the symbol of female power and independence. Her legacy is no less than any mainstream male superhero. Wonder Woman barely finds any competition from her counterpart female superheroes across the universe (Marvel & DC Universe). She still holds the crown of being the biggest female superhero.
6. Captain America
Captain America is one of the oldest superheroes of Marvel Comics. For ages Captain America has been a central and prominent figure in Marvel Comics and has also led the elite & famous team of Superheroes ‘Avengers’. The superhero almost holds the same status in Marvel Comics which Superman holds in DC Comics. Captain America’s big screen ventures have also fared well. It’s unfortunate that we couldn’t include Captain in the top 5.
7. The Hulk
A genius humble scientist turning into a Green Monster whenever losing his temper, made the crux of a storyline that would become one of the greatest storylines in the comics world. Doctor Bruce Banner aka the incredible Hulk has established himself as the epitome of anger and brute strength. The brute strength of the Hulk makes him one of the strongest beings in the comics world. The Green Monster has had monstrous success in both comics and motion pictures.
Deadpool can be termed as the most weird and crazy superhero in the mainstream. Initially when Deadpool appeared for the first time, very few would have thought that the character would reach such highs. As the character appeared as a rip-off of Deathstroke merged with few elements of Spider-Man. However, with time the character and its status grew dramatically and transformed into an iconic superhero.
9. John Constantine
Hellblazer aka John Constantine is an England based detective and working-class magician who performs black magic & occult. The occult specialist can go to any extent to get his work done. John Constantine is a complex character, he is a loner but has a large network of friends. But unfortunately most of his friends and loved ones are dead. His personality and behavior patterns may portray him as a villain or extremist. But Constantine is a die-hard humanist, John strives to protect mankind from dark and evil forces.
10. Mister Fantastic
The last name to honor our list of most popular comic book superheroes is Stan Lee’s brain child and the leader of the Fantastic Four ‘Mister Fantastic’. Reed Richards aka Mister Fantastic was one of the most prominent comics characters of Marvel Comics in the 60’s and 70’s. Despite being an egoistic man, Reed Richards is at heart a good man. He loves his family and friends, despite a tendency to always put work first. As Mister Fantastic he has also saved the world from super villains like Galactus and Doctor Doom a bunch of times. His love life, family affairs and acts of superheroism have always been successful in engaging readers.
