When you tell a tale you spark a relationship with the story. Stories passed on through generations – some fill up cultures, books, history, family values, and more. In this article, we are going to read about why stories are important to our lives and culture? Stories are a significant factor to create a connection between humans. We engage with the world through stories, and storytelling is a lot more than just events and facts. As humans, we are instantly drawn to tales as we find ourselves in them.

Every culture has a story to tell and share. These Stories decide how we look at the world and decide to live with it. Stories pass on cultural values one generation after another and thus, keep cultures alive. They offer links with myths, ancient traditions, legends, and more. But, they also form a nexus between us and the world. Through tales, we share hardship, fear, misery, and happiness and find a common ground to connect with people.

They let us know what we have in common despite being people of diverse cultures and thus let us know who they are and where we truly stand in this world. Stories hold the power to feel the raw emotion of the narrative although we are only listening to the stories. To our brain, hearing a tale and experiencing the same in reality is all the same. It gave us and others a perspective f us as we decide to have a take on everything else we view in this world.

With each story, we learn something new and it makes us more human. Stories help us to learn social norms and thus they let us recognize the rights and wrongs of society and life through real-life experiences. We tend to learn and remember stories faster as our psyche is more active towards rich and profound narratives as it provides a deep understanding of ideas, concepts, and thoughts.

Stories help us transport from our real world and help us feel and recognize the lives of others and gather new experiences. When we listen to a story we step out and away from our world and imagine and step on the show of the person we are reading about. I mean, you would never realize how easily you will transport to the world of Virginia Woolf or the surrounding of Sylvia Plath’s journal while reading it, it is so unplanned that is at a point horrifying yet astonishing. Simply, stories help us to empathize with others as we come to an understanding of their point of view of the world. And it is not just a saying, researches show that reading makes one more empathetic.

Without stories, we cannot make any sense of the world. So no matter how much we read we crave more stories in form of books, teachings, or just via conversations. But then again since this world has a plethora of tales and a different perspectives of it all, it is hard to distinguish which is authentic and more reliable. If you are looking forward to solving any issue, be it personal or of others, you need to have adequate information about it. There is no substitute for stories, you need them now and you would need them for the rest of your existence. Thus, stories are important no matter what it is – to solve issues, personal growth, make connections with the world and others, self-awareness, and survive successfully in this world.
