The Woman in the Library by Sulari Gentill is a brilliant, funny, profound, and intelligent novel. It is a captivating thriller novel. People who enjoy a little bit of playfulness in their book will find The Woman in the Library very fascinating. Sulari Gentill cunningly crafted it with charming characters, layers, and revelations that will make you gasp. This book is a story within a story and you should brace yourself for all the twists and turns.

“I’m not sure if they have more information or if it is simply an inevitable evolution of sensationalism.” The framing story is correspondence between Hannah and Leo. Hannah Tigon is an Australian novelist and is currently working on a Mystery relating four people brought together by a yell in an otherwise peaceful Boston library. She sends chapters of her writing to Leo. Leo reads and responds with suggestions and criticism.

In the story itself, there is also a writer Winifred Kincaid aka Freddie. She is trying to finish up some work in the Boston Library. The quietness of the library disappears with a bloodcurdling scream. She and three other people, Cain, Marigold, and Whit, who were nearby forms a friendship after the scream was heard and as the security guards were trying to fathom what exactly happened.

Cain is an author. He spent time on the street at a young age. Whit works as a writer for a local magazine. He comes from a prosperous family and is happily flunking out of law school. Marigold is a young student. As they talk and think about what could have possibly happened, they end up grabbing coffee together and agreeing to meet again at the library the next day.

The next day they found out that it was certainly not a joke. There is a body of a murdered woman in the library.

The group commences investigating the murdered for their selfish reasons. They want to utilize the story in the Books they are trying to write. However, Marigold is there out of pure curiosity, and maybe a crush. They start to find out the coincidences some of them may have had with the murdered woman. However, since all four of them were together the moment they heard the yell, so no one thought of anything until one of them is brought to the police station as the prime suspect.

Slowly they start to learn about the secret lives each of them led and the secrets each has been keeping. Then another corpse is found and then they start to suspect each other. Soon enough, one mistake will disclose the truth.
