The sprawling fantasy world of The Wheel of Time is expanding once again—this time into the realm of video games. iwot Studios, the company behind the Prime Video adaptation, is developing a AAA open-world RPG set in Robert Jordan’s iconic universe. As fans await word on a fourth season of the streaming series, this news brings another major milestone in the growing transmedia franchise.

A New Chapter Begins: iwot Studios Launches Game Division

iwot Studios, which has owned the rights to The Wheel of Time since 2004, is officially entering the gaming industry. The studio has launched a dedicated game division called iwot Games, which will develop the Wheel of Time RPG completely in-house. This move is part of a larger transmedia strategy that already includes a live-action film, an animated feature, and the ongoing Amazon Prime series.

Industry veteran Craig Alexander has been tapped to lead the new venture. His experience spans major titles like The Lord of the Rings Online, Dungeons & Dragons Online, and a Game of Thrones mobile game. With this track record, Alexander is well-suited to bring Jordan’s intricate fantasy world to life in a dynamic and immersive gaming experience.

What to Expect From the Game

The upcoming Wheel of Time game is set to be an expansive open-world RPG for both PC and consoles. According to Alexander, adapting the legendary mythology into a video game is a rare and ambitious challenge—but one he is eager to take on. “I’m thrilled to lead the effort and build a world-class team capable of honoring this beloved world,” he told Variety.

The game will not be restricted to just the events of the TV show. Instead, it will draw from the entire 14-book series and delve into backstory elements across the fictional world. “It’s not going to be limited to one area or another or a particular age,” said iwot Studios CEO Rick Selvage. “It will cover the entire world.”

Though still in the early stages of development—team leads are currently being hired—the studio has set a projected development timeline of three years. If all goes according to plan, fans can expect the game to launch sometime in 2027.

A Growing Fantasy Universe

This is not The Wheel of Time’s first foray into gaming. In 1999, Legend Entertainment released a first-person shooter based on the series, which remains playable today thanks to GOG’s preservation efforts. However, the new RPG represents a far more ambitious and immersive undertaking, promising to explore the lore and worldbuilding of Jordan’s universe like never before.

iwot Studios is also pushing forward with two film projects: Age of Legends, a live-action origin story directed by Kari Skogland (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), and an upcoming animated feature. Selvage emphasized that the goal is to maintain continuity and cohesion across all Wheel of Time adaptations—something the company sees as essential to building a long-lasting franchise.

What’s Next for the TV Series?

While excitement builds for the game, fans are also eager to hear about the fate of the Prime Video series. Season 3 has just wrapped, and showrunner Rafe Judkins is reportedly hopeful for a Season 4 renewal. However, Amazon has yet to confirm whether the show will continue. With the success of the series and the expanded media plans, a fourth season announcement feels increasingly likely.
