The legendary Mummy franchise is set to rise once again, this time under the direction of Evil Dead Rise filmmaker Lee Cronin. In collaboration with horror powerhouses Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, the upcoming film promises to deliver a fresh, terrifying take on the classic Universal Monster. With production currently underway in Ireland and Spain, The Mummy Reboot Adds Exciting Cast Members with some major names joining the ranks.

A Promising Cast Led by Jack Reynor

Leading the reboot is Midsommar and Sing Street star Jack Reynor. Joining him in key roles are three newly announced cast members: Verónica Falcón, May Calamawy, and May Elghety. In addition, Goya Award-winning actress Laia Costa (Lullaby, Duck Butter) is also confirmed to star.

While specific details about their characters remain tightly guarded, the casting choices hint at a diverse and dynamic lineup that could bring rich new depth to the age-old tale.

Meet the New Faces of Fear

Verónica Falcón brings considerable experience in genre films. She recently appeared in Blumhouse’s supernatural review/”>Thriller Imaginary, and previously portrayed “Trader Sam” alongside Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson in Disney’s Jungle Cruise. Her filmography also includes The Starling, Voyagers with Colin Farrell, Days of Grace, and The Forever Purge.

May Calamawy is best known to marvel fans as the “Scarlet Scarab” in Moon Knight, and also starred in Hulu’s acclaimed series Ramy. Her presence adds both star power and credibility to the film’s genre ambitions.

May Elghety, a rising star in Egyptian television, has made a name for herself in series like Grand Hotel, La Totfee’ Al Shams, and Tayee. She gained international recognition through Disney Plus’s animated sci-fi anthology Kizazi Moto, and will appear in the upcoming English-language film Due Dating.

A New Vision From Lee Cronin

Fresh off his success with Evil Dead Rise, director Lee Cronin is not only helming the project but also writing the script. Earlier this year, the film was confirmed for release on April 17, 2026. Cronin has promised a reinvention of the monster movie formula.

“This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before. I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening,” Cronin said in a statement.

His production company, Doppelgängers, is teaming up with Blumhouse (known for The Invisible Man, Wolf Man) and James Wan’s Atomic Monster (The Conjuring, The Monkey) to bring this vision to life.

Not Connected to Previous Films

The upcoming reboot is completely separate from past Mummy installments. It has no ties to the beloved 1999 Brendan Fraser-led film or the 2017 Tom Cruise iteration that failed to launch Universal’s Dark Universe. However, reports suggest a separate prequel set in the 1999 Mummy universe might still be in development, with Midway and The Rescue screenwriter Wes Tooke reportedly attached.

Fraser himself has expressed openness to returning to the franchise, stating in a 2023 interview,

“I’m not opposed to it… sign me up!”

The Legacy of the Mummy

The original Mummy film dates back to 1932, starring Boris Karloff as the resurrected Imhotep. That story followed a cursed Egyptian priest brought back to life by the mystical Scroll of Thoth, who then searched the modern world for his reincarnated lover. While Cronin’s upcoming film won’t retread that path, it seeks to reawaken the dread and mythology that made The Mummy a horror legend.
