Christopher Smith — aka Peacemaker — is back, and he’s more explosive, awkward, and weirdly lovable than ever. DC Studios has officially released the first trailer for “Peacemaker” Season 2, marking the return of John Cena’s foul-mouthed vigilante in the newly rebooted DC Universe. Created by James Gunn, who now serves as co-head of DC Studios, this season promises to be just as chaotic and bloody as the first — but with even higher stakes and some big-name cameos.
A New Chapter in a Rebooted DC Universe
Set within the freshly launched DCU, which kicked off with Gunn’s animated series Creature Commandos and will continue with the upcoming Superman film, Peacemaker Season 2 serves as the first live-action DCU series. This gives the show added significance in setting the tone for what fans can expect from this new shared universe.
The trailer reveals that Smith finds himself rejected by a superhero panel consisting of Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Green Lantern Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion) — all of whom are expected to appear in Gunn’s Superman this summer. It’s a clear signal that Peacemaker is now fully intertwined with the new DCU timeline.
Returning Cast and New Faces
Season 2 brings back fan-favorite misfits from Season 1 — collectively known as the 11th Street Kids — including:
- Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, daughter of Amanda Waller
- Freddie Stroma as the unhinged yet loyal Vigilante
- Jennifer Holland as A.R.G.U.S. agent Emilia Harcourt
- Steve Agee as the sarcastic tech expert John Economos
- Eagly, Peacemaker’s patriotic bald eagle sidekick
Also returning is Robert Patrick as the ghostly presence of August “Auggie” Smith, aka White Dragon, Peacemaker’s racist father whose influence continues to haunt him.
Among the new additions, Frank Grillo makes his live-action debut as Rick Flag Sr., reprising the role he voiced in Creature Commandos. His arc is expected to be intense, as he seeks revenge on Peacemaker for killing his son, Rick Flag Jr., in The Suicide Squad.

Multiversal Mayhem and Emotional Depth
The trailer hints at deeper emotional themes, as Smith and his team grapple with the fact that even after saving the world, they remain outsiders. Their search for acceptance — both societal and personal — appears to be a central conflict this season.
But it wouldn’t be Peacemaker without some twisted surprises. The biggest jaw-dropper in the teaser? Peacemaker coming face to face with… himself. Yes, there are two Peacemakers. Whether this is a clone, a multiversal variant, or something stranger remains to be seen — but it opens the door to some wild narrative possibilities.
Release Date and Episode Count
Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max (formerly HBO Max) on August 21, 2025, and will consist of eight episodes. UK viewers can expect the series to stream on Sky and NOW shortly after the U.S. debut.
