Apple and director Sam Hargrave are teaming up once again for an ambitious new project — a film adaptation of Marc Guggenheim’s acclaimed Dark Horse graphic novel Last Flight Out. Following the success of Apple TV’s The Last Frontier, Hargrave is in advanced talks to direct the adaptation, which Apple Original Films recently secured in a seven-figure deal. The development is taking place in collaboration with Chernin Entertainment, marking another major partnership between Apple and the production powerhouse.
Last Flight Out is a compelling story about a father and daughter who struggle to reconcile as the world faces its end. The emotional survival narrative blends high-stakes drama with human connection, qualities that align with Hargrave’s signature style seen in his action-driven works like Netflix’s Extraction films and Apple’s The Last Frontier. Given his proven mastery of intense storytelling, Last Flight Out seems a perfect fit for his expanding filmography.
Alongside directing, Hargrave will also serve as a producer, joining forces with Chernin Entertainment’s Peter Chernin and David Ready, as well as Dark Horse Entertainment’s Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg. Marc Guggenheim is adapting his own graphic novel for the screen, ensuring that the essence of the original story remains intact.

This project also reunites Hargrave with Apple after their collaboration on the upcoming action film Matchbox, starring John Cena. Hargrave, represented by WME, has built a reputation for transforming action-oriented material into character-driven spectacles — a trait that Apple and Chernin seem eager to harness again.
Marc Guggenheim, best known as the co-creator of the Arrowverse television franchise, has been on a creative streak. In the past six months alone, he has sold three television pilots and completed work on Netflix’s forthcoming movie An Innocent Girl, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Carry-On). Guggenheim is represented by CAA, Cliff Roberts at Syndicate Entertainment, and attorneys Wendy Kirk and Raymond Tramble.
For Chernin Entertainment, Last Flight Out continues a thriving partnership with Apple, established through their first-look feature deal. The company’s previous collaborations with the streamer include the epic historical series Chief of War and the Emmy-nominated See, both starring Jason Momoa, the NAACP Award-winning Truth Be Told featuring Octavia Spencer and Gabrielle Union, and the Emmy-winning documentary The War for Football.
With Last Flight Out, Apple Original Films and Chernin Entertainment are aiming for a large-scale, emotionally resonant blockbuster that combines thrilling action with heartfelt storytelling. With Hargrave’s experience, Guggenheim’s vision, and Chernin’s production legacy, the adaptation promises to be one of Apple’s most anticipated cinematic ventures yet.
