The latest anthology, Logan: Black, White & Blood (2026), offers a visceral, monochromatic journey through the shadowed history of the man known as Wolverine. Stripped of the vibrant colors of typical superhero fare, this issue uses a stark palette of black, white, and crimson to highlight the brutality and resilience that define James “Logan” Howlett. Spanning decades and continents, the book presents three distinct “untold tales” that explore Logan’s life before and after his time with Weapon X.

Part I: “Arms Race” – The Cold War’s Red Secret

The first story, “Arms Race,” transports us to the Kapyong Valley during the Korean War in 1951. The narrative opens with Logan awakening in total darkness, surrounded by the “hellish stench of a massacre”. His senses are assaulted by the “unholy reek of war”—clotting blood, spent gunpowder, and the metallic tang of cordite.

The Awakening

Logan describes the agonizing sensation of his mutant healing factor stitching his guts back together after being “gutted like a fish”. He recalls the ambush that occurred just before dawn. While his unit, the 2nd Battalion of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (2 PPCLI), was resting, they were attacked by something fast and razor-sharp. Logan notes that the attackers didn’t just wage war; they engaged in “wholesale slaughter on a biblical scale”.

The Hunt and the Horror

Logan explains that his unit was comprised of “hardcore rowdies and old warriors”—natural-born scrappers who were often overlooked by the high brass in Ottawa. Fueled by a need for vengeance, Logan tracks the killers, realizing they aren’t North Korean or Chinese, but elite Soviet Spetsnaz.

When he finally catches up to them, he discovers the “strange metal mix” he smelled earlier: these soldiers are Soviet science experiments outfitted with advanced robotic limbs and metal claws. Despite his ferocity, Logan is initially overwhelmed by their speed and cybernetic strength, suffering a brutal kick from a “metal toe” and a jammed rifle.

Conclusion: The Beast Unleashed

In the heat of the struggle, Logan’s “rage monster”—the “caged beast” he keeps buried deep inside—takes over. The story shifts to an epilogue where a Soviet Major General, Captain Karpov, surveys the aftermath. Logan has decimated the entire strike team. Karpov chillingly concludes that while their “robotic appendages” were tested, the real lesson was that no weapon can match the “grit and ferocity” of a force like Logan. He decides to combine these elements into a new initiative: the Winter Soldier Project.

Part II: “Times Square Red” – The Crossroads of Sin

The second tale shifts the setting to the grimy, neon-lit streets of 1970s New York City. Here, Logan is depicted not as a soldier, but as a traveler seeking a moment of peace in the “Crossroads of the World”.

The Investigation

Logan frequents a dive bar called “Rusty Ray’s,” a place smelling of “sour sweat and stale cigarettes” that serves as his oasis. His peace is interrupted by Candy Cane, a local woman who reveals that a serial killer is stalking the neighborhood. The “Maniac” has killed four people, leaving pages from a bloody Bible on each body. Because the victims are from the “wrong” side of town, the police have done nothing.

The Trap

Logan uses his enhanced senses to track the killer’s scent—a mix of adrenaline and recklessness—to an adult theater. Recognizing that a direct confrontation might allow the killer to escape in the crowd, Logan decides to make himself an “irresistible target”. He sits in the theater, pretending to be a depraved enthusiast, and waits.

The killer, a “mission killer” targeting those he deems sinful, eventually strikes, stabbing Logan from behind while shouting, “I know your sin, and I condemn you for it!”.

Conclusion: Taking out the Trash

Logan endures the pain, simply telling the man, “Hey, bub… I’m tryin’ to watch a movie here!”. He restrains himself from killing the man to avoid drawing unwanted attention to his own “assignment on foreign soil”. Instead, he leaves the killer bound with rope provided by a local bondage store and makes an anonymous call to the police, ensuring they get an “easy collar”. He ends his night back at Rusty Ray’s with a bottle of “special occasion” whiskey, reflecting on the city that never sleeps.

Part III: “Red Claws” – The Wild and the Wounded

The final story takes place in Northern Saskatchewan, shortly after Logan’s escape from the Weapon X facility. This segment is largely wordless, told through animalistic grunts, sniffs, and the violent sounds of survival.

Survival of the Fittest

Logan is living in the wild, his mind more beast than man. He encounters a mother wolf and her cubs. Nearby, two hunters—Mac and Pierre—are illegally hunting wolves to sell their fur to “rich folk”. They spot Logan and, mistaking him for a “sawed-off Sasquatch,” decide to take his pelt as well.

What follows is a brutal display of nature’s wrath. Logan defends the wolves, shrugging off a .30-06 chest wound and brutally dispatching the hunters. The story emphasizes Logan’s transition from a victim of science back into a creature of the wilderness. The narrative concludes on page 32 with the simple words “THE END,” marking the close of this chapter of Logan’s bloody legacy
