The long-awaited film, The Flash, lives up to its expectations as it takes us on a thrilling journey across the Multiverse, courtesy of Ezra Miller’s portrayal of the Scarlett Speedster. In a typical fashion for a tale that traverses different dimensions, the movie treats us to an array of mind-boggling cameos, proving to be a delightful homage to DC’s iconic heroes. From the very beginning to the tantalizing post-credits scene, The Flash treats us to a nostalgic trip through the live-action adaptations of beloved characters, spanning various generations. Now that the film has hit theaters, let’s delve into the exciting List of Cameos in The Flash Movie and provide an overview of their significance.

Decades after their iconic portrayals, Christopher Reeve’s Superman and Helen Slater’s Supergirl made their cameos in The Flash, marking a monumental moment for DC enthusiasts. Using cutting-edge CGI, both characters were painstakingly recreated to bring them back to life on the big screen.

Christopher Reeve’s incarnation of Superman is widely regarded as one of the definitive superhero castings, having graced the silver screen in four movies between 1978 and 1987. Meanwhile, Helen Slater played Supergirl in the 1984 Supergirl movie and more recently portrayed Supergirl’s mother in the Arrowverse’s Supergirl series.

Interestingly, plans were initially in place for Reeve’s Superman to appear in the 1984 Supergirl movie, but unfortunately, that crossover never came to fruition. Nevertheless, the long-awaited appearance of Superman and Supergirl in The Flash finally brought this dream collaboration to reality, delighting fans who had been waiting for this crossover event for decades.

Nicolas Cage (Superman)

In a fascinating Easter egg, The Flash movie features Nicolas Cage’s Superman, a deep-cut reference to DC’s movie history. Back in the late 1990s, a Superman movie reboot was in the works, with acclaimed director Tim Burton at the helm. This ambitious project aimed to revive the beloved superhero franchise after Superman IV. Excitement built as various iterations of the film took shape, ultimately coming close to fruition under the title Superman Lives.

One of the most intriguing aspects of this unrealized film was the casting of Nicolas Cage as Superman. Cage went as far as participating in test screenings wearing a complete Superman costume, embodying the iconic superhero. However, despite all the preparations and buzz surrounding Superman Lives, the project faced numerous obstacles, leading to its cancellation before entering full-scale production. As a result, Nicolas Cage’s portrayal of Superman remained a tantalizing “what if…?” scenario, forever etched in the annals of DC’s unfulfilled potential.

Fast forward to the present, and The Flash movie seizes the opportunity to pay homage to this lost chapter of DC’s cinematic legacy. In a nod to the test screenings and the mystique surrounding Cage’s portrayal, the filmmakers have incorporated a CG-rendered version of Nicolas Cage’s Superman into the storyline. This cameo appearance draws inspiration from those early costume tests and brings the alternate Superman to life once again, albeit in a brief and captivating moment.

Adam West (Batman)

Adam West, known for his iconic portrayal of Batman, held the definitive version of DC’s vigilante before Michael Keaton stepped into the role for Tim Burton’s Batman. West’s Batman universe had its own distinct style and did not feature in the aforementioned cameos. However, in The Flash’s multiverse sequel, several computer-generated recreations of West’s Batman made their appearance.

From 1966 to 1968, Adam West captivated audiences as Batman in the popular television series. He also donned the cape and cowl for the 1966 Batman movie, cementing his status as the Caped Crusader. Not only did West excel in live-action performances, but he also lent his voice to Batman in two animated films. These animated movies were lovingly crafted in the style reminiscent of the beloved 1966 Batman series.

George Reeves (Superman)

The iconic Superman portrayed by George Reeves in the 1952 series Adventures of Superman has been given a remarkable CG recreation. This cameo follows a similar approach to Adam West’s Batman, as multiple CG versions of the character make appearances on the fringes of the multiverse. Furthermore, the film pays homage to the black-and-white nature of the original Adventures with Superman show, showcasing the character in black-and-white during his cameo as well.

Golden Age Flash

During The Flash’s multiverse sequence, a black-and-white Flash inspired by the Golden Age made a striking appearance. This character, brought to life through CG, bore a striking resemblance to Teddy Sears’ Jay Garrick from The Flash TV series. However, it remains unclear whether this rendition was specifically based on Sears’ Jay Garrick or if it represented a more generic Golden Age Flash. Adding to the confusion, Sears, who actually portrayed the villainous Zoom, donned a remarkably accurate Jay Garrick Flash suit on the show. Regardless of these details, it’s worth noting that Jay Garrick holds a significant place in the comic book realm as the original Flash, predating the creation of Barry Allen himself.

Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman)

In The Flash, an exciting team-up takes place as Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman joins forces with Barry and Bruce to thwart a group of robbers. While Batman and the Flash were present, Wonder Woman stood out as the sole Justice League member participating in the film’s opening sequence. Similar to Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Wonder Woman’s cameo in The Flash was brief, lasting only a few minutes. An amusing interaction between her and Batman ensued when Wonder Woman employed her iconic Lasso of Truth. As for Gal Gadot’s future as Wonder Woman beyond The Flash, it remains uncertain and awaits further announcements.

CGI Henry Cavill (Superman)

Despite Gal Gadot’s cameo as Wonder Woman in The Flash, fans were disappointed to learn that Henry Cavill would not be joining the cast, even for a brief appearance. Cavill’s portrayal of Superman had faced numerous complications in recent years, leading to the surprising announcement that the iconic character would be rebooted, regardless of the post-credits scene featuring Black Adam. However, to the delight of fans, there is a silver lining. In The Flash, a clever use of CG technology allows Cavill’s Superman to make an appearance. Specifically, the film showcases a recreated battle between the Flash and Superman from their encounter in Justice League. Interestingly, for a significant portion of The Flash, Barry finds himself in an alternate universe where Zod tragically eliminates the infant Kal-El, preventing him from ever reaching Earth.

Jason Momoa (Aquaman)

In the post-credits scene of The Flash, Jason Momoa makes a delightful cameo as Aquaman, bringing some comic relief to the film. The scene showcases a conversation between Barry and Arthur, where they discuss the intricacies of the multiverse, which can be quite confusing. This appearance by Momoa’s Aquaman leaves us wondering about the implications for James Gunn’s DC Universe.

Interestingly, in the final minutes of The Flash, we see George Clooney donning the Batman suit. It’s quite puzzling to envision Clooney as the Batman of the DC Universe, but it does raise some intriguing possibilities. Considering the rebooted nature of this DC franchise, it would certainly make a lot of sense for Momoa’s Aquaman to make a triumphant return in this fresh iteration.
