Aseem Trivedi
Trivedi was born on February 17, 1987. He is an Indian political activist and cartoonist. He is known for his campaign named Cartoons Against Corruption. Aseem Trivedi is one of the founders of Save Your Voice which is a movement made against the censorship of the internet in India. In the year 2015, he was awarded the Cartoonist of the Year.
Ganga Prasad Vimal
Born on June 3, 1939, Ganga Prasad Vimal was a poet, novelist, translator, and story writer. In 2019 he was nominated for the Sahitya Academy Award for a 2016 published story collection named ‘Main Bhi Jaoonga’. On December 23, 2019, Vimal died at Southern Highway, Sri Lanka due to a motor accident.
Mala Sen
Bengali-Indian-British writer Mala Sen was born on June 3, 1947, was a human rights activist. She was popular for race relations work in London and civil rights activism during the 1960-the 70s as part of British Black Panther and British Asian movements. Rajeshwar Dayal
Dayal was an Indian writer and Head of the UN Operation in the Congo. He was also one of the earlier officers to get into the Indian Foreign Service. In 1969, the Indian Government awarded him with Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award. Due to a stroke, he died in New Delhi on September 17, 1999.
Shailesh Matiyani
Born on October 14, 1931, Matiyani was a Hindi poet, essayist, and writer. He wrote more than 17 collections of stories including Maimmod and more than 30 novels which include two of his popular works Suryaasth Kosi and Ramkali. His writings portray the struggles and fighting energy of the lower-middle class and lower class of India which he personified through his writings and his life which gave him the label of ‘Jankathakar’ or ‘People’s Writer’. Many writers admired his works notably Premchand.
Shekhar Joshi
Hindi writer Shekhar Joshi was born on September 10, 1932. Joshi’s best works are Kosi Ka Ghatwar (The Miller of Kosi) and Dajyu (Big Brother). Kosi Ka Ghatwar and a few other stories have been translated into Czech, Polish, English, Russian and Japanese. He is referred to as one of the most influential writers of Kumaon.
