My Heart Is A Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones is a horror lover’s dream. This story made me feel different emotions. It is so dark and upsetting that it gave me bad dreams. It’s likewise an extraordinary piece of fiction written in flawless prose and populated by incredible characters. This book was outside the extent of my regular genre. However, I am so happy I took a risk on it.

Jade is a 17 year old half-Indian who lives with her abusive dad in a sleepy lakeside town where nothing happens. She is our primary character and she is a fan of horror movies, particularly slasher movies. Jade is our storyteller and seriously needs a real life slasher to show up in her town. She is looking for the signs that she knows preceeds a slasher in each film, and has practically every information about these movies. In fact she helps me to remember Randy from the Scream movie.

I liked Jade’s character. My heart ached for her sad family circumstance and how she never appeared to fit in. I was happy when other characters were good to her and attempted to be there for her, yet whose endeavours are in any case woefully inadequate. Jade, is the sort of girl who has the intestinal fortitude to save herself.

My Heart Is A Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones is raw, gripping and it’s intense towards the end. For that reason, I was unable to put it down, I needed to know how it finished. The cover, with the hint of red peeking through the gash, tells you that something is coming, that this isn’t your some common horror tale.

I knew few of the horror movies and directors the writer referred to. But additionally there are so many I had no clue existed. I was 90s kid so I thoroughly understood the Scream movies and how much that film played with horror tropes. I liked how My Heart Is A Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones attempted to follow those yet additionally question if the events would truly play out like a film. The chance of fiction becoming reality may be beyond what the small town can deal with.

Overall, My Heart Is A Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones is an awesome book. A slasher with heart that is both bloody and meta. It’s additionally simple, incredible and genuine. It’s a story that opened up a genre of film for me.
