After four seasons of alien hijinks, heartfelt drama, and small-town mysteries, Resident Alien will officially conclude its run with the Season 4 finale on August 8, 2025. USA Network, now home to the show, has confirmed that the upcoming episode will mark the end of the road for the sci-fi comedy-drama starring Alan Tudyk.

A Final Goodbye for ‘Resident Alien’

Resident Alien first premiered in 2021 on Syfy and quickly found a dedicated fanbase thanks to its unique blend of science fiction, humor, and emotion. The show, created by Chris Sheridan and based on the Dark Horse comic series, follows an alien named Harry who crash-lands on Earth and assumes the identity of a small-town doctor. What starts as a mission to wipe out humanity slowly transforms into a personal journey filled with empathy, confusion, and plenty of comedy.

The series made a notable move from Syfy to USA Network for its fourth season after facing potential cancellation following Season 3. The shift came with a tighter budget and hopes of renewed attention, aided by the show’s previous seasons finding an audience on Netflix. Despite those efforts, Season 4 garnered only modest ratings and limited traction on NBCUniversal’s streamer, Peacock.

Creator Chris Sheridan Saw the End Coming

Series creator and showrunner Chris Sheridan wasn’t blindsided by the decision to end Resident Alien. In an interview with TV Insider, Sheridan admitted he had anticipated that Season 4 would be the show’s final chapter.

“I knew going into it that this was likely going to be our final season,” Sheridan said. “Creatively, that was exciting because I knew we could spend the time wrapping up some storylines and driving toward an ending. I’m so proud of how good Season 4 is and especially proud that we were able to finish as strongly as we did, with a finale that is probably my favorite episode of the series.”

Sheridan added that the finale will be a “very satisfying ending”, while still leaving “the door cracked open for any future this world may have.”

What’s Happening in Season 4?

The current season of Resident Alien throws Harry into his most dangerous predicament yet. Season 4 begins with Harry and his alien baby, Bridget, imprisoned on the Grey Moonbase, while a shape-shifting alien known as a Mantid takes his place on Earth. The imposter pretends to be the real Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle, causing chaos in his absence.

Eventually, Harry escapes from the Greys and returns to Earth, preparing for a climactic showdown with the Mantid. But defeating this powerful enemy won’t be easy. Meanwhile, back in the town of Patience, Colorado, other storylines unfold. Asta and D’Arcy struggle with keeping a vital secret from Ben and Kate, who are desperately searching for answers. Sheriff Mike and Deputy Liv continue to investigate a string of mysterious deaths that suggest something beyond human involvement.

Alan Tudyk Leads a Beloved Cast

Alan Tudyk’s performance as the awkward and sarcastic alien-in-disguise has been a standout since day one. His portrayal of Harry brought both humor and heart to the series, elevating it beyond its quirky premise. Alongside Tudyk, the ensemble cast includes:

  • Sara Tomko as Asta Twelvetrees
  • Corey Reynolds as Sheriff Mike Thompson
  • Alice Wetterlund as D’Arcy Bloom
  • Levi Fiehler as Mayor Ben Hawthorne
  • Elizabeth Bowen as Deputy Liv
  • Judah Prehn as Max Hawthorne
  • Meredith Garretson as Kate Hawthorne

What’s Next for USA Network?

With Resident Alien coming to a close, USA Network now has no other currently airing scripted shows. However, the channel plans to debut a new legal drama titled The Rainmaker in the near future, signaling a shift in its content strategy.

Resident Alien Season 4 episodes air Fridays on USA, and they become available for streaming on Peacock a week later. The series finale will air on August 8, 2025, wrapping up Harry’s strange and endearing journey on Earth.
