The beloved character Piglet from the Winnie the Pooh universe is set to star in a horror parody film. Titled Piglet, this upcoming release by SpookHouse MediaWorks and Strange Films Studios promises to deliver a nightmarish experience inspired by classic slasher films.
A New Take on a Classic Character
Piglet, traditionally known for his timid and harmless demeanor, will be reimagined as a vengeful killer in this horror parody. The film is not connected to the “Poohniverse” franchise, which includes movies like Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. Instead, it offers a fresh take on the public domain character, combining elements from iconic horror films like Friday the 13th and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
“We’re sparing no expense to stay true to the genre’s practical effects roots and create a truly nightmare-inducing experience,” the Piglet team stated. They have high hopes that this film will become a cult classic, much like its predecessors in the slasher genre.
The Plot and Cast
Set in the remote Appalachian hills, the film follows Piglet, the son of a once industrious butcher, who lives a solitary life marred by tragedy. His world is turned upside down when fame-hungry millennials trespass onto his land and slaughter his beloved pig in a bid to manufacture exploitation. Unbeknownst to them, their actions awaken a vengeful killer. Piglet, driven by rage, brutally dispatches the trespassers one by one, displaying savage power.
Directed by August Aguilar (The Gifted), the film features an ensemble cast including Celeste Blandon (Phantom Fun-World), Jasper Hammer (All Eyes), and Brian Bremer (Pumpkinhead). The score, composed by Dr. Chud, formerly of The Misfits, promises to enhance the film’s eerie atmosphere.
Homage to Classic Slashers
Piglet will pay homage to classic slasher movies, with comparisons being drawn to Motel Hell, a slasher flick known for its killer who wears a pig’s head. The filmmakers are dedicated to utilizing practical effects, a nod to the genre’s roots, ensuring a visceral and terrifying experience for viewers.
