10 Best Villains Ever Casted by Marvel for Movies: Many times, it has been claimed that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has a “villain problem”. Its villains are rarely as well-rounded as its protagonists and frequently speak in soundbites about their cliched evil schemes. There are several exceptions to the “villain problem,” including a few excellent performances that came before the MCU, so this isn’t a hard-and-fast rule.
Some actors, like Josh Brolin as Thanos, Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger, and Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus, have infused their Marvel villain roles with genuine emotion.
10 Best Villains Ever Casted by Marvel for Movies
Michael Keaton As the Vulture
Superhero-turned-supervillain Michael Keaton does a fantastic job portraying a villain who doesn’t view himself as the villain in the part of the Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming. As stated in the prologue, Adrian Toomes turned to a life of crime to support his family after being forced out of his industry by government-issued red tape.
Cate Blanchett As Hela
Chris Hemsworth had more fun playing the character than ever before in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok, and he wasn’t the only one. Waititi added a good dose of humour to the God of Thunder’s solo escapades. With the part of Hela, Thor’s terrible estranged sister who escapes from Hell to destroy Asgard, Cate Blanchett embraced every chance to go full-on Disney villain.
Willem Dafoe As the Green Goblin
Willem Dafoe did a fantastic job of capturing the Jekyll-and-Hyde duality of the Green Goblin in Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man trilogy. His Norman Osborn converses with his shadowy counterpart in the mirror in a delightfully spooky way. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, director Jon Watts mercifully destroyed Dafoe’s mask when the Goblin made a comeback. This allowed Dafoe’s expressive face to show through and inflict far more dread than the Power Rangers helmet ever could.
Tony Leung As Wenwu
One of several “bad dad” antagonists in the MCU, including Thanos, Ego, and the original, Obadiah Stane, is Shang-estranged Chi’s father Wenwu. Wenwu isn’t a one-dimensional villain because of Tony Leung’s nuanced depiction; he has a lot of depth and tragedy. Leung managed to make the head of a long-gone terrorist group into a surprisingly likeable character. Leung makes it obvious that Wenwu’s conviction that he can be reunited with his deceased wife is the reason for all of the horrific things he commits.
Ian McKellen As Magneto
One of the most recognisable villains in the Marvel universe was brought to life on the big screen by Ian McKellen before the MCU even existed. Magneto’s conflict with Charles Xavier was expertly shown in both positive and negative light in Fox’s X-Men series. McKellen conveyed tremendous reality to the sorrow of a Holocaust survivor battling for his people’s rights. A lesser actor would have played Magneto as a stereotypical bad guy.
Tom Hiddleston As Loki
Before his tragic demise and the spin-off starring his former self, Tom Hiddleston transformed Loki into a more sympathetic antihero, but in his early appearances, the trickster deity was just the bad guy. Along with perfectly portraying Loki’s smarmy smugness, Hiddleston also added a tragic undertone to his moments with Chris Hemsworth, who played the brother whose favour he desires.
Elizabeth Olsen As the Scarlet Witch
Throughout the MCU, Wanda Maximoff has experienced some strange adventures. Elizabeth Olsen, at last, got her opportunity to shine in WandaVision after playing a B-tier Avenger in a few group films. Even though WandaVision’s climax transformed Wanda back into a simple hero, it hinted at her corruption due to the Darkhold’s malevolent influence.
Wanda, who goes by the name “Scarlet Witch,” is a full-fledged villain in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Olsen portrays the mass murdering Earth-616 Wanda as a hyper-camp Sam Raimi horror villain, and she also provides an equally riveting performance as Wanda’s more conventionally likeable Earth-838 counterpart.
Alfred Molina As Doctor Octopus
In Spider-Man 2, Alfred Molina played Doctor Octopus with the ideal balance of moustache-twirling villainy and sincere emotional depth. It’s been hailed for years as one of the finest supervillain performances ever.
Molina’s Doc Ock was able to experience true redemption when he was thrust into the MCU by the multiverse craziness of No Way Home. Tom Holland’s Spidey heals him, and he goes on to use his octo-abilities to aid in the decisive battle.
Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger
Erik Killmonger disobeys every rule governing the “villain problem” in the MCU. He has a direct family tie to the hero as T’Challa’s scorned long-lost cousin. Killmonger, like the best villains, uses dubious tactics, but his objectives are comprehensible. Michael B. Jordan had a fantastic performance. When Killmonger murders without remorse, he is evil, but in his moving last scenes, Jordan makes us feel sorry for him.
Josh Brolin As Thanos
The Mad Titan finally took centre stage in Avengers: Infinity War after being foreshadowed in a couple of subplots and post-credits scenes, and because of Josh Brolin’s potent portrayal, he didn’t disappoint.
With this part, Brolin had a significant obstacle to overcome. Brolin had to convince viewers to take Thanos seriously even though he is a large, bald, purple-skinned alien with an absurd-looking chin. Against all chances, he succeeded. The actor captured Thanos’ egotistical tendencies admirably. He doesn’t consider himself as a bad guy since he thinks everything he does is for the benefit of society as a whole.
