Here’s a list of the best YA books from august 2021 and which warmed our hearts with their humour, poignance and love. There are fantasy and romance subgenres as well, but all this books Recommended For Young Adults have a distinct YA trademark to them.

This dark academia fantasy book follows Felicity as she enters a Dalloway School, a place which used to be a hub for witches. Felicity loved the school until the tragic death of her girlfriend, but now the witchcraft rumours and death of Dalloway Five haunt her. Until, she meets Ellis, a method novelist who wants to research the Dalloway Five for her second novel.
The Endless Skies by Shannon Price
This fantasy takes place in a world of shapeshifter winged lions called the Leonodai. Our protagonist, 17 year old Rowan is training to become a Leonodai but when a plague sweeps the land, Rowan and her besties are sent to enemy lands to find a cure. And the journey is going to be anything but safe.
Phantom Heart by Kelly Creagh
The protagonist of this novel, Stephanie, is a rational person with no belief in the supernatural, as opposed to her sister who claims that a monster is lurking in their closet. Enter the beautiful and supernatural obsessed Lucas, Stephanie begins to lose her ground. Plus, Stephanie is seeing a boy in her dreams, who seems be involved somehow with the supernatural events going on.
The Woods are Always Watching by Stephanie Perkins
This follows the excursion of best friends Neena and Josie who are soon going to have to deal with a long distance friendship. The three day hike plan goes terribly awry as they lose their way and walk into a waking nightmare.
Beyond the Mapped Stars by Rosalyn Eves
This book follows a Mormon girl Elizabeth, who lives in a conservative household expecting her to perform her duty to her family and soon to be husband, while harbouring dreams of becoming an astrologer. When she finds herself in Colorado, a world of possibilities opens up for her and she must make a choice.
Enola Holmes and the Black Barouche by Nancy Springer
Enola Holmes is the younger sister of Arthur Conan Doyle’s master character Sherlock and Mycroft, and a brilliant detective in her own right. This book follows the murder mystery of the Earl’s wife Felicity Grover, which Enola investigates.
As Good As Dead by Holly Jackson
This is the new book in the “Good Girl’s Guide to A Murder” series, where investigator Pip is facing trauma from her previous investigation. Just before leaving for Cambridge, a new mystery involving online threats and a stalker lands up on her doorstep, and this time it is she who is involved.
The Last Words We Said by Leah Scheier
This book follows the aftermath of Jewish Danny’s disappearance and the attempts of his family and friends to cope with it. His girlfriend is the only one who believes he isn’t dead because she sees him. Now she’s looking for answers.
Both Sides Now by Peyton Thomas
Finch Kelly has great ambitions in life – he wants to be the world’s first trans congressman, but for that he needs to get into Washington Uni. For this, he must win the high school debate competition. All’s going well, until he discovers his developing crush on his debate partner Jonas, and that he is going to have to argue against trans rights, which goes against his humanity.
Fresh by Margot Wood
This tender coming of age novel tells of Elliot’s freshman experience, delving into how her mindless fun soon turns into a nightmare. Her wild life comes back to smack her in the face in the form of finals, a crazy roommate’s boyfriend and more. This book is equal parts funny and equal parts delicate, making it a great read for those in need of laughs and cuddles.
