CAT (Common admission test) is an entry-level examination for best business colleges in India. students are selected on a percentile system dependent on abilities in English, Mathematics, and Logical Reasoning. (Percentile – It means the student who has scored highest will be 100 percentile and students below him/her will be based on the number of students appeared in the examination and on the scale of 100 where the marks obtained by a particular student stand)

Example: suppose 600 students appeared for the exam and the highest mark obtained (By Amit) is 300 out of 350. Amit obtained 100%. Now suppose Sumit obtained 279 and he is 10th highest scorer. His percentile will be 98.33.

Calculation = 100/600 multiplied by 10 (10 is the position of the students by marks) = 1.666. Final = (100 – 1.66 = 98.33 percentile).
