Chad Stahelski, the visionary director behind the immensely successful John Wick series, is set to work on an exciting new project: producing an English remake of the acclaimed Indian action film, Kill. Stahelski, known for his mastery in creating intense action sequences, will be working with his production company, 87Eleven Entertainment, in collaboration with Lionsgate.
The Original Film and Its Significance
The original Kill, directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, has generated significant buzz. Premiering in theaters on July 4 in North America and the UK, this film marks a rare occasion where a major American studio partners to distribute a Hindi-language film. This collaboration with Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions signifies a significant milestone for Indian cinema, highlighting its growing global influence.
Stahelski’s Enthusiasm for the Remake
Stahelski expressed his excitement about the project in a statement, describing Kill as “one of the most vivid, wild, and creative action movies I’ve seen recently.” He praised Bhat’s relentless action sequences and emphasized the importance of bringing this thrilling story to a wider audience. “It’s exciting to be developing an English-language version — we have big shoes to fill and I’m looking forward to working with Nikhil, Karan, Apoorva, Guneet, and Achin to achieve that,” he said.
Production Team and Vision
Jason Spitz and Alex Young from 87Eleven Entertainment, known for their work on blockbuster films like Captain America: Civil War and Jurassic World, will also be producing the remake. The team is committed to maintaining the high standards set by the original film while adapting it for an English-speaking audience.
The Story of Kill
Kill follows the gripping story of Army commando Amrit, who discovers that his true love, Tulika, is being forced into an arranged marriage. Determined to stop it, Amrit boards a New Delhi-bound train, only to face a gang of knife-wielding thieves terrorizing the passengers. Amrit’s mission quickly shifts from a personal rescue to a fight for survival, as he battles the gang to protect the innocent passengers.
Statements from Indian Producers
The producers of the original film, Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta from Dharma Productions, along with Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain from Sikhya Entertainment, expressed their delight at the news. In a joint statement, they said, “When we made Kill with Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, we dreamed of global love, and seeing North American theaters chant ‘Kill! Kill! Kill!’ was like seeing that vision come alive. This announcement coming before the original film’s release is unprecedented and a big win for Indian cinema. We are truly honored.”
Future Projects for Stahelski
Stahelski’s commitment to groundbreaking action cinema continues with other exciting projects. He recently wrapped up additional filming on the John Wick spin-off Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, and is set to direct the highly anticipated Highlander reboot in Scotland, featuring Henry Cavill. Fans of the John Wick franchise will also be thrilled to hear that there are discussions about Stahelski potentially returning to direct John Wick 5, once again starring Keanu Reeves.
