The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling is charming, funny, and loving. This story is one of those kind that you will want to read over and over. It has such countless elements that suck us directly in – from love to hate, damn hot Ex, Rhys, to the insane family members, to the fantastic creepy hex that begins every one of the strange issues which rain down upon the town! Erin Sterling nails it in each way.
Nine years prior, Rhys left 19 year-old Vivi to return to Wales. With a wrecked heart and encouragement from cousin Gwyn. Vivi blends vodka, baths, candles, and magic to curse Rhys. She imagines that he will just have messy hair for a little while. But, when Rhys gets back to Graves Glen, Georgia to recharge the town’s ley lines, things turn out badly. Did the curse really worked?
Rhys and Vivi are likeable characters with incredible chemistry. However, some times, they appear to be more keen in rekindling their romance than fixing what has turned out badly in the town. That makes them appear to be practical, however fairly irresponsible on occasion. The supporting characters gave conflict or support and had a suitable measure of depth.
The story moved along at a fair speed with some mystery, yet not exactly as much as I anticipated. I wanted to read a story with a theme related to Halloween and this one fit the bill. Witches, curses, ley lines, a witch school, romance, ghosts, biting toys, and a talking cat makes it a pleasant story for readers. There are some other significant themes that go through the book including family, lies, humour, feeling steady and safe, trust, fascination, and love.
Overall, The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling was a humorous and entertaining read. This is the perfect way to kick off the Spooky Season. I would suggest it to any person who loves Halloween and likes their romance to be heart-warming rather than hard-core.
