But Galaxy has done her homework. She “dream-walked” through Green Arrow’s unconscious mind while he was firing — a remarkable entrance that shocks everyone and explains exactly why Galaxy wanted her there. “I dream-walked through Green Arrow’s unconscious mind,” she says. “I’m here to save your lives.” She guides the crew to a ruined temple in the eye of a sandstorm — a pocket free of dream energy, and therefore invisible to the Witch Queen’s future-sight.

CRASH-LANDING AND CONFRONTATION

The ship is crippled, the mission has gone sideways, and the team is stranded in the desert. Galaxy uses her gravity-manipulation powers to slow the ship’s fall, working alongside Star Sapphire to keep it from killing everyone. They make it — barely.

What follows is one of the best stretches of interpersonal writing in recent DC memory. Star Sapphire tears into Galaxy for inviting a “war criminal” onto a classified mission. Dreamer and Green Arrow have a quiet, loaded exchange — Oliver reveals he knew what was happening to Dreamer when she was caught in Amanda Waller’s schemes during the Absolute Power crisis, and he did nothing. Galaxy, looking up at the star that used to be Cyandii, says quietly: “It’s not too late for Naltor.” And Star Sapphire, shaking off the last of her possession, stands up and gives her battle speech: no secrets, no tricks — the Naltorian seers can foresee any plan, so the only way to beat them is raw, obvious force. Hit ’em hard, hit ’em fast, hit ’em obvious.

THE FOUND LANTERNS AND GALAXY’S RECKONING

Plan is put into motion — but Galaxy and Dreamer are still mid-argument about rage and the future, a confrontation that won’t fully resolve until the very last page. Galaxy has admitted her terror: the rage she saw in Dreamer’s future eyes was real, was prophesied, and is already building inside Dreamer with every step she takes on this mission. Dreamer lashes out, then goes quiet: “There are things bigger than my feelings.”

Then — they find the missing Lanterns. A whole swarm of them, green rings blazing, chanting the Witch Queen’s name and ready to destroy everything in their path. Galaxy tells the team to go on without her. She’ll hold the Lanterns off alone.

Dreamer has been here before — she is the wielder of genuine dream energy, not stolen clairvoyance. She calls the Witch Queen’s bluff: stolen power doesn’t give you the ability to properly interpret prophetic dreams. The nightmares are disorienting. Are you sure it was us you foresaw losing, or did you just seal your own fate?

The plan comes together in pure superhero poetry. Dreamer positions herself in the Witch Queen’s path, trusting Green Arrow’s aim completely: “I TRUST YOU! TAKE THE SHOT!” Green Arrow fires. Dreamer channels everything into an enveloping blast of dream energy. The Witch Queen grabs the arrow — and Dreamer’s blue dream-energy explosion detonates the scepter. KRAAK. It shatters. Maal Sinestro, stripped of her stolen weapon, is powerless.

AFTERMATH — SEERS, MOTHERS, AND DIFFICULT HOMECOMINGS

Pages 31-33 are the denouement, and they are loaded. Galaxy and Adam Strange crash in through the wall (to be fair, Dreamer had just obliterated most of it). The possessed Lanterns, deringed and freed, are no longer a threat. Maal Sinestro is taken into custody by the newly liberated Lanterns, headed for Oa.

But the most important scene happens when the Seers of Naltor recognize Dreamer. She wears the armor that belonged to a former Seer — her mother. The Seers are stunned: they had long prophesied that the wielder of dreams would lead Naltor from its ruin, but they believed that figure to be the Witch Queen, not the woman standing before them. Dreamer is having absolutely none of their reverence. She unloads: the Seers trained their entire lives to be protectors of this world, and when the crisis came, they did nothing but wait for someone else to solve it. They followed orders. In the chaos, Fred is knocked out, and when he wakes up, his life has taken a sharp turn back into the “super” territory he tried so hard to avoid.

While the raid was going on, Fred found himself in a lab where he encountered a jar labeled “PASSENGER”. Inside was a symbiote that had been on Earth since 1816, passed around from labs to flea markets for over two hundred years. Fred, seeing the value in being able to protect the “downtrodden lackey” and the “goon,” agrees. They become partners, at least “for now”.

The Cliffhanger: The Sorcerer Supreme

With the immediate threat of the government and Tombstone neutralized—or at least bypassed—Fred and Passenger prepare to escape into the night and lay low. Fred likes the “respectability” of the red-and-blue color scheme, and Passenger is happy to be out of the jar.

However, their escape is short-lived. As they are about to depart, they are intercepted by a group of mystical-looking agents. “Fred Myers!” they command. “You are in possession of the symbiote known as Passenger. You are coming with us—immediately. By order of the Sorcerer Supreme”.

The issue ends with a classic, “TO BE CONTINUED…???” leaving Fred “Comeback” Myers in a position he never wanted to be in: the center of a conflict involving the most powerful forces in the Marvel Universe.
