The next chapter in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man saga is officially underway. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has started filming, and excitement is soaring as fans get glimpses of the friendly neighborhood hero swinging back into action. Sony Pictures even released a 23-second teaser, while Marvel fans—ever the detectives—have been quick to share leaked on-set clips online. One particular scene already has the internet buzzing: Peter Parker facing off against none other than Jon Bernthal’s Punisher. But while several Spider-Man Villain in Next Movie – Brand New Day, have been confirmed, a new insider report hints that the true mastermind pulling the strings is someone nobody has guessed yet.
Tom Holland Returns With a Star-Studded Cast
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film will see Tom Holland reprise his role as Peter Parker, with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon expected to return as MJ and Ned. Joining them are Stranger Things star Sadie Sink and The Bear’s Liza Colón-Zayas in undisclosed roles.
One of the most anticipated additions is Jon Bernthal, returning as Frank Castle/The Punisher after reprising the role in Daredevil: Born Again. The film is penned by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, with Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Rachel O’Connor, and Avi Arad producing.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31, 2026, slotting in before Avengers: Doomsday (December 18, 2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (December 17, 2027).
Punisher, Hulk, and a Packed Villain Lineup
So far, we know Spider-Man won’t be short on adversaries this time around:
- The Hulk – Mark Ruffalo returns as Bruce Banner, but fans will see him in conflict with Spidey, reminiscent of comic clashes like Amazing Spider-Man #328. Whether due to mind control or a misunderstanding, this face-off promises pure spectacle—pitting Hulk’s raw power against Peter’s agility and intellect.
- The Punisher – Though known for his own code of justice, Punisher’s military training, sharpshooting skills, and pain tolerance make him a dangerous opponent. There’s speculation that he may team up with Spider-Man against a bigger threat, possibly even the Hulk.
- The Scorpion – Michael Mando reprises his role as Mac Gargan, teased back in Spider-Man: Homecoming. With his venomous stinger and enhanced suit, Scorpion’s return could revive Sinister Six rumors.
- Tombstone – Lonnie Thompson Lincoln, an African-American albino turned ruthless crime boss after exposure to the Diox-3 gas, brings brute force and criminal mastermind skills to the fray.
- Tarantula – A skilled combatant who uses weapons and agility, Tarantula has a history of intense comic book battles with Spider-Man.
- Boomerang – Frederick Myers uses weaponized boomerangs and flight boots to wreak havoc, adding a more unpredictable element to the villain roster.
- Ramrod – A lesser-known cyborg with super strength, speed, and a nearly indestructible skull, Ramrod could serve as one of Spider-Man’s early skirmish foes in the film.

The Mystery Main Villain
While the confirmed lineup is already stacked, industry insider Daniel Richtman claims the true main villain hasn’t been revealed—and isn’t any of the names currently circulating online.
This rules out previously rumored contenders like Mister Negative and suggests Marvel Studios is holding a major surprise under wraps. Even with fan theories pointing toward Scorpion, Venom, or other classic rogues, the actual antagonist might be a completely unexpected player in the MCU’s future plans.
Speculation and Possible Story Directions
The idea of Spider-Man clashing with both heroes and villains raises the stakes for Brand New Day. A Punisher–Spider-Man–Hulk triangle could serve as the emotional and action-heavy core of the movie, while organized crime bosses like Tombstone or Scorpion might weave in a street-level threat.
But if Richtman’s claim is true, the real mastermind could be operating behind the scenes, orchestrating these conflicts for their own agenda—a reveal that might only come in the final act.
Release Date and MCU Placement
With a release date set for July 31, 2026, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will bridge the gap before the multiverse-heavy Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Given Marvel’s recent trend of interconnecting storylines, it’s likely the events of this film will tie directly into the larger MCU narrative.
Until then, fans will keep dissecting every teaser, leak, and rumor—hoping to crack the case of the mystery villain before the big day arrives.
