Universal Pictures has unveiled the first full trailer for Reminders of Him, the emotional new drama based on Colleen Hoover’s acclaimed 2022 novel. A Story of Redemption and Second Chances

Set against the quiet backdrop of Wyoming, Reminders of Him follows Kenna Rowan (Maika Monroe), a young mother who returns home after serving seven years in prison for a tragic mistake that claimed the life of her boyfriend, Scotty (Rudy Pankow). The trailer teases both tender beginnings and devastating consequences — a whirlwind romance, a fatal crash, and a haunting question: can love survive guilt and forgiveness?

After prison, Kenna yearns to reconnect with her daughter, Diem, whom she gave birth to while incarcerated. But Diem’s grandparents, Grace and Patrick (Lauren Graham and Bradley Whitford), refuse to let her near the child they’ve raised since Scotty’s death. Isolated and desperate for a fresh start, Kenna finds an unexpected ally — and complicated love interest — in Ledger Ward (Tyriq Withers), a former NFL player who now owns a small-town bar. Their growing bond is clouded by the painful truth: Ledger was Scotty’s best friend, and his loyalty to the family stands in the way of forgiveness.

Heartfelt Performances and All-Female Leadership

The film’s trailer, set to Lord Huron’s melancholic The Night We Met and Alex Warren’s Ordinary, captures Hoover’s signature blend of heartbreak, humanity, and hope. Monroe’s voiceover delivers the moving line: “There was before you, and there was during you. For some reason, I never thought there would be an after you.”

The cast features several notable names. Grammy-winning country artist Lainey Wilson appears as Kenna’s confidante Amy, while Jennifer Robertson plays her landlord. Zoe Kosovic stars as Kenna’s daughter Diem, joined by Hilary Jardine and Nicholas Duvernay as Ledger’s bar staff, and Monika Myers in her debut role as Kenna’s neighbor, Lady Diana.

Reminders of Him is helmed by Vanessa Caswill, known for Love at First Sight and the Little Women mini-series. Colleen Hoover co-wrote the screenplay with producer Lauren Levine, bringing her own words to life for the first time on film. Hoover also serves as producer alongside Levine and Gina Matthews (Isn’t It Romantic13 Going on 30), with Robin Mulcahy Fisichella as executive producer.

A Universal Pictures release, produced under Heartbones Entertainment and Little Engine, the film continues the cinematic momentum of the “CoHo phenomenon.” Hoover’s books have sold more than six million copies in the U.S. alone and been translated into forty-five languages.

A Promising Chapter in Hoover’s Screen Journey

In a recent interview, Maika Monroe described Kenna as “a complicated, layered character” whose grief and resilience resonated deeply with her. She praised the project for its emotional authenticity, calling it a story about “motherhood, forgiveness, and the power of love to overcome even the worst mistake.”

Following the recent adaptation of Regretting You starring Allison Williams and Dave Franco, and ahead of Hoover’s forthcoming thriller Verity featuring Dakota Johnson and Anne Hathaway, Reminders of Him stands poised to deliver yet another poignant narrative of heartbreak and healing — one that asks whether redemption can truly rewrite the past.
