Millions of years ago, the Celestials visited Skrullos, the planet of the Skrull. Through genetic experimentation, they created three races from the dominant Skrull life forms. The Deviants possessed shape-shifting abilities, while the Eternals were near-immortals with cosmic powers. The third race, Normal Skrulls, had no powers but had the potential for positive genetic mutations, similar to humans.

The Deviants considered themselves superior and used their shape-shifting abilities to eliminate the other races, becoming the sole survivors. However, Kly’bn, the last of the Skrull Eternals, convinced the Deviants’ leader, Queen Sl’gur’t, that killing him would lead to their own demise. Kly’bn claimed to embody the essence of being a Skrull and believed it was their destiny to transform other worlds with their truth.

Queen Sl’gur’t embraced Kly’bn’s ideas, and together they ascended to a heavenly dimension, becoming godlike beings. Sl’gur’t became ever-changing, while Kly’bn vowed to maintain a single form. The Skrulls worshipped them as their leaders, and they became the revered figures in the Skrull Pantheon of gods, shaping the beliefs and culture of the Skrull civilization for millions of years.

To solidify their scheme, they implanted fabricated memories, convincing the replica that he was indeed the genuine hero.

To secure their control over him, the Skrulls incorporated a clever trigger mechanism by linking a seemingly ordinary Earth painting to his subconscious. This painting was intended to serve as a recall signal, compelling him to join their cause when the invasion reached its critical stage. However, an unexpected turn of events occurred during the replication procedure, causing the replica, known as Khn’nr, to awaken prematurely.

Panicking, the Skrulls hastily erased the memories of the real Khn’nr, further fueling the replica’s belief that he was, in fact, the legendary Mar-Vell. Lost in this delusion, he unleashed his fury upon the Skrulls, slaughtering them mercilessly. Seizing the opportunity, he made a daring escape into the treacherous realm of the Negative Zone, leaving behind a trail of chaos and confusion.
