Murakami, J.K. Rowling, Stephen King and Henry Miller. What do all these authors have in common? They all are great authors who have done exceptionally well in their writing careers. Now, you might be wondering what makes them so great? Ever wondered what makes them and so many other authors stand out from the rest? The answer lies in their habits and the way they live their lives. You can learn so much from some of Your favourite authors. So here’s a list of 10 qualities of successful authors you should inherit in your lives.
Qualities Of Successful Authors You Should Inherit:
Start Small
Many writers were nobody when they were first starting out as an author. They had average jobs and did writing part-time. But all this could not stop them. They kept working hard and never gave up. Even if you start small remember, these small droplets only will fill up an ocean.
Don’t Think about “What Will People Think”
Walt Disney was told that he lacked imagination. Imagine what would have happened if he had paid heed to them? People are going to blame you no matter what you do. Don’t pay attention to them. All these authors had some one or the other telling them to stop but they did not. Its your life and you have to make it worth living for YOU and no one else.
Be Consistent
Consistency is the key in every field of work. Many famous authors were denied work at the star of their career but that did not stop them from pursuing their dreams. Murakami and Vonnegut both do physical workout everyday. They think that pushing your self physically will help you push yourself harder mentally. This helps them have the strength to write a long novel.
Not Getting Demotivated By Failures.
Failures are always evident in the path of success. Every author has many times suffered failures. Dr. Seuss’s got rejected 27 times before getting published. This did not stop him from completing his goals. He instead kept working hard and learnt from his past mistakes. Failures are always a lesson to help you move forward.
Be Disciplined
Discipline is what separates losers and winners. If you are not Disciplined in life, you will not go anywhere. J.K.Rowling says “your work is all about your structure and discipline”. When you stop procrastinating you get your work done better.
Love Whatever You Do
You should be able to love your work to achieve something in it. Treat it as the only activity that is worth your time. Do it with passion and love. No matter what you decide to do in your life, accept it as your fate. Ernest Hemingway says “Writing is a good metaphor for life. Sometimes its good, and sometimes bad”.
Be Patient
Figuring out our life takes time. The only thing we can do is be patient and have faith in ourselves. Be patient till the right time comes. Be patient till the right opportunity comes and then shoot your shot. Good things take time. It is not okay to get demotivated just because you are experiencing a delay in success.
Be Comfortable With The Struggle
Hard work is inevitable if you want to be successful. It is better you train your mind to work hard, than to wail afterwards. What you think as a failure now is the foundation to your success in the future.
Steer Away From Distractions
Distractions hamper your preparation in the path of success. Nathan Englander says “if you want to work you must learn to unplug and go off on all kinds of distractions.”
Just Because You Are Not Successful Now, Doesn’t Mean You Wont Ever Will Be.
You have to trust the process. The publishers rejected J.R.R. Tolkien’s copy of The Lord Of The Rings many times. We should learn the determination and will of these authors who in spite of all the obstacles are on top of their game.
