Payback’s a Witch by Lana Harper is Entertaining and fun fantasy/romance. The chemistry among Emmy and Talia was hot and it was good watching the three characters (Emmy, Talia, and Linden). All of them are trying to bring down a shared enemy. For me, best part was watching Emmy rediscover her love for Thistle Grove and its customs and her family’s wizardry. The writing was delightful and loaded up with lush portrayals of the town and the spells.

Emmy Harlow is back in Thistle Grove. She is back after nine long magicless years. The witches of Thistle Grove draw their power from the town. This means that the larger the distance between them and the town, the weaker they become. Harlow’s are viewed as the weakest witches in the town. Which is to some degree why Emmy left and never returned. The other reason was Gareth Blackmoore stomping on her heart since he was member for the most powerful family around and would never be with a Harlow.

A magical competition brings Emmy back to town and to exacerbate the situation Gareth doesn’t recognize her. Emmy discovers that her dearest friend Linden Thorn was also scorned by Gareth similar to the charming and scary Talia Avramov. Together they collaborate to seek revenge on Gareth, along the way Emmy winds up charmed by Talia. But, will Emmy’s not so happy past still threaten to hold her back from accepting Thistle Grove and Talia?

Payback’s a Witch by Lana Harper was a good witchy mix of humour, steam, and serious moments. Emmy’s journey of self-discovery and development as she got back to her hometown was appealing.

I liked the witchcraft elements. I liked how genuine it felt that Emmy was torn between her commitment to her family and her past. The moments when Emmy acknowledged what she truly needed and what she had let define her felt vulnerable in the most ideal manner. According to me Emmy and Talia both complimented one another well and was pulling for them from the beginning. I also liked that their sexualities were never questioned and their relationship was acknowledged.

This was a pleasant book about Emmy’s journey. The writer does a very great job of portraying Emmy’s struggle, particularly when she needs to confront harsh realities about her role in choosing to flee from her problems. The supporting characters were not well developed and they were mostly there to respond to Emmy.

Overall! Payback’s a Witch by Lana Harper is a sexy, magical romance. The story with amazingly relatable characters, and witty dialogue.
