Class 1-A of U.A. High School represents the future of hero society in My Hero Academia. These twenty students have faced countless challenges, villain attacks, and life-threatening situations that have forged them into some of the most promising heroes of their generation. According to creator Kohei Horikoshi’s official rankings released in the My Hero Academia Ultra Age Fanbook, several Class 1-A students have successfully transitioned into top-tier Pro Heroes, with their rankings revealing just how far they’ve come from their days as students.
The latest Hero Billboard Chart rankings show Shoto Todoroki claiming the number two spot, followed by Izuku Midoriya at number four, and Katsuki Bakugo at number five. However, understanding these rankings requires examining each student’s unique quirk, abilities, and contributions throughout the series. This comprehensive guide explores all twenty students of Class 1-A, their seat numbers, quirks, and what makes each of them formidable heroes in their own right.
My Hero Academia: Class 1-A Hero Rankings Explained
The Top-Ranked Heroes from Class 1-A
Shoto Todoroki – Seat No. 15, Number 2 Pro Hero
Known as the Aircon Hero, Shoto Todoroki currently holds the highest ranking among Class 1-A graduates at number two on the Pro Hero Billboard Chart. His quirk, Half-Cold Half-Hot, gives him the ability to generate ice from his right side and fire from his left side, inherited from his parents through what’s called a Quirk Marriage. This unique combination allows Shoto to counterbalance the negative effects of each element, using heat to recover from ice overuse and vice versa.

Shoto was destined for greatness from the beginning, but his hardworking nature and down-to-earth attitude have propelled him to compete head-to-head with Lemillion for the top spot. His powerful techniques include Flashfire Fist: Phosphor and Great Glacial Aegir, making him almost impossible to stop in combat. Beyond his raw power, Shoto’s presence brings comfort to people, and he focuses not just on defeating villains but also on keeping those around him happy.
Izuku Midoriya – Seat No. 18, Number 4 Pro Hero
The protagonist of My Hero Academia, Izuku Midoriya goes by the hero name Deku and currently ranks as the number four Pro Hero. Born without a quirk, Izuku inherited One For All from All Might, giving him access to multiple quirks including Float, Blackwhip, Danger Sense, and the ability to use 120% smash attacks. Through One For All, Deku gains access to all the quirks of previous users, making him one of the most versatile heroes in the series.

What makes Deku particularly impressive is his new armor, which allows him to continue fighting even after the time-skip. His combination of adaptability and sheer strength surpasses many other characters, and his strategic mind helps him maximize the potential of his multiple quirks. Deku has done incredibly well with his armor and earned himself a high rank, though beating Shoto and claiming higher positions won’t be easy.
Katsuki Bakugo – Seat No. 17, Number 5 Pro Hero
The Explosive Hero known as Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight, Katsuki Bakugo has climbed from his previous 15th position to claim the number five spot. His quirk, Explosion, allows him to secrete nitroglycerin-like sweat from his palms and ignite it at will, creating powerful explosive attacks. Bakugo can use these explosions for propulsion, giving him incredible mobility in addition to devastating offensive capabilities.

Bakugo’s skillset revolves around offense, with little interest in defensive or evasion tactics. However, his Quirk more than makes up for his deficiencies. He can overwhelm even Deku when the latter doesn’t exceed five percent of One For All. His techniques include Cluster explosions with full body explosions, and he received a gearshift boost during the final war. Interestingly, Bakugo’s initial low popularity among fans caused his rank to drop to 15th, but his latest change suggests fans have started to find him more likable.
Mid-Tier Pro Heroes and Support Specialists
Tenya Ida – Seat No. 4, Class Representative, Number 13 Pro Hero
Tenya Ida, known as Ingenium (a name inherited from his older brother), holds the number 13 position on the Hero Billboard Chart. His quirk, Engine, manifests as car-like engines in his calves, giving him extraordinary running speed and extreme kicking power. The engines have multiple gears, allowing Tenya to switch between First, Second, and Third Gear depending on the situation.

What makes Tenya’s quirk particularly interesting is his ability to improve it by removing his mufflers. When he rips out the engines from his legs, new and improved versions grow back with greater power. However, this process is extremely painful and requires recovery time. Tenya needs to consume orange juice to stay energized, as it works as fuel for his engines. His special moves include Recipro Burst, Recipro Extend, and Recipro Turbo, each providing increasing levels of speed, with maximum speed being his absolute highest capability.
Eijiro Kirishima – Seat No. 8, Red Riot, Number 12 Pro Hero
The Sturdy Hero Red Riot, Eijiro Kirishima, holds the number 12 position. His quirk, Hardening, allows him to harden any part of his body, protecting him from most physical threats and making him almost invulnerable to harm. When activated, his skin becomes as tough as stone, rendering him impervious to attacks that would devastate others. Even explosions leave no scratch on his hardened form.

Kirishima’s quirk extends beyond defense, granting offensive capabilities as well. His hardened body becomes rough and sharp, capable of cutting opponents on contact. The blend of durability and power from a single ability shows why Hardening is so effective for hero work. His ultimate move, Unbreakable, transforms his body entirely into an indestructible wall for brief periods, though he loses flexibility during this state. The more damage his hardened skin sustains, the weaker it becomes, and it provides no thermal protection.
Mezo Shoji – Seat No. 11, Tentacole, Number 9 Pro Hero
The Tentacle Hero Tentacole, Mezo Shoji, ranks at number nine, making him one of two Class 1-A students in the top ten. His quirk, Dupli-Arms, gives him a set of tentacles alongside his arms that can transform their tips to replicate other parts of his body, such as eyes, ears, and mouths. The duplicated body parts are more efficient than the originals, granting him superior hearing, vision from multiple angles, and much higher degrees of strength.

Shoji got this position by going solo earlier than his peers, which makes a lot of sense given his versatile abilities. He contributed greatly to the final war, helping bring about societal change by improving attitudes toward heteromorphs. As a leading figure for the heteromorph community, many people vote for him due to his representation and the hope he brings. The ears he can manifest through his quirk grant him enhanced hearing, making him particularly well-suited for scouting and reconnaissance missions.
Ochaco Uraraka – Seat No. 5, Uravity
Ochaco Uraraka, also known as Uravity, possesses the Zero Gravity quirk, which allows her to nullify the effects of gravity on solid targets by touching them with her hands. She can make anything solid float in mid-air as long as they are within her previous weight limit of three tons. To cancel her quirk’s abilities, Ochaco simply folds her hands to stop the Zero Gravity effect.

During the Final War, Ochaco experienced a Quirk Awakening while fighting Himiko Toga. This awakening eliminated two major limitations: the need to touch targets and the three-ton weight limit. She acquired a new ability to create gravity bubbles that send targets flying on contact without needing to touch them. Now, Uraraka can lift much heavier objects without even touching them and suspend them in mid-air for however long she wants. Her ultimate moves include Meteor Storm, Meteor Fafrotskies (combined with Tsuyu), and Gravity Plus.
Specialized Combat and Support Heroes
Fumikage Tokoyami – Seat No. 14, Tsukuyomi
Fumikage Tokoyami, known as Tsukuyomi, wields one of the most unique quirks in the series: Dark Shadow. This quirk manifests as a sentient shadow monster from his body that he can control and manipulate. The power of Dark Shadow depends on the amount of light in the environment – in bright light, Dark Shadow is weak and small but easier to control, while in complete darkness, he becomes so strong he can take down even the most powerful villains.

Tokoyami made headlines when his Light of Baldur ultimate move struck down All For One, the Symbol of Evil himself. This attack was so powerful that All For One described it as “an attack I needed to dodge at all costs”. During the final war, favorable conditions on the battlefield – storm clouds obscuring the sky, winds extinguishing wildfires, and earth manipulation creating further darkness – allowed Dark Shadow to reach unprecedented power levels. Tokoyami ranks fourth in Class 1-A’s power rankings during the final arc.
Tsuyu Asui – Seat No. 3, Froppy
Tsuyu Asui, who prefers to be called “Tsu” by her friends, goes by the hero name Froppy. Her mutant quirk, Frog, permanently alters her physical features, giving her frog-like characteristics including the ability to stick to walls, hop on all fours, extend her tongue up to incredible lengths, and even say “ribbit” like a frog’s croak.

Tsuyu’s quirk grants her numerous remarkable attributes that give her an edge in combat. Her tongue is powerful enough to carry the weight of an average human, functioning as both a whip for attacks and an extra limb to carry friends or citizens away from danger. Her frog-like legs allow her to make incredibly powerful leaps to avoid opponents and deliver equally powerful kicks. Additionally, she can stick to walls and climb vertically, breathe underwater, secrete poisonous mucus that irritates the skin, and even camouflage herself to blend with her surroundings. Her most underrated ability is camouflage, which allows her to match both the temperature and color around her, making her invisible even to heat-vision or thermal cameras.
Kyoka Jiro – Seat No. 12, Hearing Hero
Kyoka Jiro, the Hearing Hero, possesses the Earphone Jack quirk, which gives her long controllable earlobes shaped like headphone jacks. These jacks offer her superhuman hearing, able to pick up even the most minuscule of sounds. She can extend her earlobes up to six meters and move them freely as appendages. The jacks are strong enough to pierce through solid materials such as concrete, and when she does so, she can hear anything within a 12-meter radius of the pierced surface.

Jiro can also send deadly vibrations through her jacks in the form of her heartbeat, shocking opponents and causing internal damage. With her Stereo Boots equipment – specialized boots with stereos built in – she can plug her earphone jacks into the speakers and blast out destructive sound waves with enough force to obliterate even solid boulders. Her special move, Heartbeat Surround: Legato, showcases the full potential of her sound-based attacks. Kyoka uses her quirk mostly for spying and support, making use of her jacks to detect vibrations caused by enemy movement.
Mina Ashido – Seat No. 2, Pinky
Mina Ashido, also known as Pinky, possesses the Acid quirk, which allows her to secrete corrosive acid from her skin. She can control both the solubility and viscosity of her acid, lowering solubility to ensure her quirk doesn’t become lethal against most people. This quirk makes her an untouchable and fast close-range fighter.

Mina’s acid is so powerful that it was able to melt through Gigantomachia’s armored skin, a feat that is practically impossible for some heroes. She excels at close-range combat, using her acid as a surface to glide on, making her a difficult target to hit. She can shoot acid from her hands, cover herself in acid as a defensive maneuver, and manipulate the viscosity of her acid to shift between offense and defense quickly. Her special moves include Acid Shot, Acid Veil (creating a wall to block attacks), and her ultimate technique Acidman: Alma, where she completely covers herself in acid to shield from any kind of damage.
Denki Kaminari – Seat No. 7, Chargebolt
Denki Kaminari, known as Chargebolt, possesses the Electrification quirk, which allows him to generate electricity and cover his body in it. He can discharge this electricity in all directions, shocking and paralyzing anyone close to him. For every ten grams of sugar consumed, his discharge can reach up to 1.3 million volts, though calculations suggest he actually produces roughly 112 million volts.

Kaminari’s biggest challenge is mastering control and precision with his electricity. When he discharges electricity without support items, he has no way of controlling the current’s direction, meaning the currents will hit anything nearby. His Sharpshooting Gear, created by Mei Hatsume, includes disc-like projectiles that stick to surfaces and attract electricity, allowing him to use more focused electrical currents. His special move “Mega Charging” was used to power the U.A. barrier during the final war. However, overuse of his quirk leaves him vulnerable, as his body cannot handle excessive electricity, rendering him incapacitated for up to an hour.
Mid-Range Fighters and Tactical Support
Hanta Sero – Seat No. 13, Cellophane
Hanta Sero, the Taping Hero Cellophane, has tape dispenser-like organs in his elbows that shoot long cellophane tape-like strips, which he can also retract. The tape appears to be sturdier than regular tape and can be used to bind targets from afar, restraining them by knotting tape around their bodies. He prefers to remain at a safe distance while firing large amounts of tape at opponents with impressive accuracy.

Sero uses his tape for mobility, attaching the adhesive material to surfaces and then either swinging himself through the air or pulling himself toward attachment points. He can also produce double-sided tape that sticks to both sides, allowing him to create traps and blockades for enemies. His ultimate moves include Barricade Tape (releasing large amounts of tape to protect himself and others) and Trident (using projectiles in his surroundings to launch at villains). The main drawback is that overusing his quirk causes his skin to dry out.
Yuga Aoyama – Seat No. 1, Can’t Stop Twinkling
Yuga Aoyama’s quirk, Navel Laser, allows him to emit high-frequency energy beams from his navel area. Wearing a belt given to him at a young age as a control mechanism, Aoyama can fire sparkly twinkling laser beams with incredible destructive capabilities. His laser can pierce straight through incredibly thick concrete and various metals at varying ranges.

Since Aoyama was gifted this quirk from All For One instead of being born with it, his body isn’t built for it. Excessive use causes him severe stomachaches, and without his belt support item, the laser tends to leak out on its own. His special moves include Navel Buffet Laser (shooting successive blasts from his belly button as well as special pads on his knees and shoulders), Navel Saber (projecting his laser into a solid beam), and Warp Refraction: Navel Laser (combined with Hagakure’s light manipulation). Initially portrayed comically with him only able to use it a few times before exhaustion and near vomiting, Aoyama’s strategic thinking makes him a valuable asset.
Mashirao Ojiro – Seat No. 6, Tailman
Mashirao Ojiro, the Martial Arts Hero Tailman, possesses the quirk Tail – a long, muscular tail that serves as both a weapon and a tool. His tail functions as a powerful extra limb capable of defense and offense, allowing him to grapple with objects. The tail is strong enough to break objects made of metal and support his body weight.

Ojiro is incredibly adept at using his tail, combining it with his knowledge of martial arts to engage enemies in close-range combat while performing fast and acrobatic moves. His tail can be used to increase his speed and mobility by whipping it down against the ground. His ultimate moves include Tornado Tail Dance (spinning in mid-air and hitting anything around him with his tail) and Fist of the Tail: Swamp Smack Spin (a defensive technique where he spins horizontally with his tail stretched out, generating enough force to repel anything close to him). Even without his tail, Ojiro is remarkably powerful and is one of the best hand-to-hand combatants of Class 1-A, finishing seventh in the Quirk Apprehension Test.
Reconnaissance and Utility Specialists
Koji Koda – Seat No. 9, Anima
Koji Koda, the Petting Hero Anima, possesses the Anivoice quirk, which allows him to communicate with and command animals and insects. This quirk gives him the ability to speak to animals in the surrounding area and have them follow his commands. He can also understand their responses, making for a truly unique skill.

During the Final War, Koji achieved a Quirk Awakening that dramatically improved his abilities. His new appearance featured multiple horns sprouting from his head that serve as antennae, integral to his new abilities. While he previously had to speak to animals to activate his quirk, he’s now capable of controlling them solely by telepathically sharing his thoughts and feelings to animals at an even greater range than his voice could reach. This eliminates his previous weakness of being naturally soft-spoken and having difficulty verbalizing commands.
His special moves include Hitchcock Birds (summoning birds to cause a distraction or obstruct sight) and Bugging Out (summoning tons of insects to engulf opponents). The main limitation of his quirk is that it depends on his surroundings – in a cityscape or indoors, it may be harder for him to reach out to animals or insects. Additionally, opponents with quirks that can scare away animals can leave him vulnerable.
Rikido Sato – Seat No. 10, Sugarman
Rikido Sato, known as the Sweets Hero Sugarman, possesses the Sugar Rush quirk, which allows him to increase his strength five-fold for three minutes for every ten grams of sugar he consumes. When activated, his muscles swell appropriately, making him a formidable force in close-range combat.

Sato is a straightforward fighter who takes advantage of the temporarily augmented physical might granted by Sugar Rush to punch his way through obstacles and enemies. Beyond his training regimen, Sato’s passion for baking cakes – a byproduct of his quirk requiring constant sugar intake – delights his peers. However, the quirk comes with significant drawbacks: the more sugar he consumes, the slower he gets mentally, and eventually he can lose cognitive function entirely. His special moves include Sugar Rush (unleashing a barrage of punches) and Sugar Knuckle (delivering an incredibly powerful punch capable of knocking adversaries off their feet). To strengthen his quirk, Sato needs to become highly physically fit to increase his lifting threshold, as doing so increases the number he’d be multiplying when consuming sugar.
Toru Hagakure – Seat No. 16, Invisible Girl
Toru Hagakure, the Stealth Hero Invisible Girl, possesses the Invisibility quirk, which makes light refract through her body, rendering her completely invisible. Her quirk is continuously active, meaning that for her to be completely invisible she needs to take off her clothes. This grants her advantages in bypassing guards unnoticed and catching opponents off guard during combat.

Toru’s unique ability extends beyond simple invisibility. She can manipulate light using sunlight, a formidable move she uses to blind enemies by flashing light upon them – a technique recognized as one of her special moves named Warp Refraction. She can also complement Aoyama’s navel laser quirk by warping the light he emits, rendering areas blind. One drawback is her inability to deactivate her quirk at will, preventing her from visually communicating with her peers. Additionally, she is not entirely undetectable – thermal imaging can be used to detect her presence. However, her ability to refract light makes her immune to light-based attacks, such as Aoyama’s Navel Laser.
Minoru Mineta – Seat No. 19, Grape Juice
Minoru Mineta, known as the Fresh-Picked Hero Grape Juice, possesses the Pop Off quirk, which allows him to produce and pluck ball-shaped objects from his head that grow back as fast as they’re plucked. The balls are incredibly sticky and will stick to any surface, with the sole exception being Minoru himself – he just bounces off them. The duration of their adhesive quality is determined by his overall health.

Despite being the shortest student in Class 1-A and unpopular due to his perverted nature, Minoru is surprisingly quite smart, consistently scoring in the top half of his class academically. He uses this intelligence strategically in battles, creating effective traps with his sticky spheres. His special moves include Grape Rush (rushing toward enemies while throwing many sticky objects), Grape Buckler (attaching spheres to a shield for defense), and Grape-Pinky Combo Mineta-Bounce (combined with Mina’s Acid Layback to bounce between spheres while throwing more at opponents). If he plucks too many spheres, it may cause him to bleed from his head, though he has trained to increase the strength of his scalp. His quirk is particularly suited for setting up traps to round up criminals and preventing villains from escaping.
The Vice Representative and Genius Strategist
Momo Yaoyorozu – Seat No. 20, Class Vice Representative, Creati
Momo Yaoyorozu, known as Creati and serving as Class 1-A’s Vice Representative, possesses one of the most versatile and potentially overpowered quirks in the entire series: Creation. This emitter-type quirk allows her to create any non-living object from her body as long as she knows its molecular structure. The materials she produces come from converting her own body fat cells, with the energy needed to generate materials derived from her lipids.

Momo’s Creation quirk is unparalleled in versatility. Whether facing enemies at a distance (create long-range weapons), enemies too close (create short-range weapons), or needing specific environmental solutions, she can literally make the solution to any problem. She can even alter the molecular structure of items she creates, such as when she recreated Aizawa’s capture weapon using a nitinol alloy, a shape memory metal, entirely changing the purpose of the weapon. Her ultimate move, Yaoyorozu’s Lucky Bag, involves creating a massive cannon that fires a bag full of items she creates to aid her allies.
The quirk’s limitations include needing to eat regularly to maintain adequate body fat for creation, requiring immense knowledge of molecular science, production time being proportional to the object’s size and complexity, and the inability to reproduce living things. Additionally, rapid consumption of fat cells might lead to Momo becoming weak. Academically, Momo ranked first place in the mid-terms of her class, demonstrating her exceptional intelligence. The quirk was considered so overpowered that creator Kohei Horikoshi originally wanted to give it to a Pro Hero but decided to give it to a rising hero instead.
Understanding the Ranking System
The Hero Billboard Chart rankings reflect multiple factors beyond raw power. While combat ability plays a significant role, other elements contribute to a hero’s ranking, including popularity among citizens, successful villain captures, rescue operations, and the overall impact they have on society. This explains why someone like Ingenium (Iida) holds the number 13 spot despite not being among the physically strongest – his diligence and responsibility matter greatly in hero rankings.
Several Class 1-A students who aren’t in the top 15 still play crucial roles as heroes. Characters like Tokoyami, Creati (Momo), and Uravity (Ochaco) may not have made the current top 15, but their contributions during the Final War and their unique skill sets make them invaluable assets. Tokoyami’s ability to take down All For One proves that rankings don’t always reflect true combat potential in specific situations.
The rankings also show interesting trends in how heroes develop their careers. Some students like Shoji went solo early, which helped them achieve higher rankings faster. Others like Kirishima haven’t gone solo yet, suggesting their rankings will increase significantly when they do. Bakugo’s journey from 4th to 15th and back to 5th demonstrates how public perception and likability factor into rankings alongside combat prowess.
