To date, the dragon has been brought back to life an incredible 66 times.

It was during one of these resurrections that Daniel Rand came to face the powerful creature. In the midst of their battle, a dragon-shaped tattoo was burned onto Rand’s skin, marking him forever. To obtain the coveted power of the Iron Fist, Rand plunged his hand into the brazier containing the molten heart of Shou-Lao, forever altering the course of his life and setting him on a path to become one of Marvel’s most iconic heroes.

With the ability to breathe fire and absorb the knowledge of those he consumes, Mr. Lao is a force to be reckoned with. Anyone who dares to venture into his cavern in the Atlas Sanctuary uninvited would do well to beware. Using the genie’s magic, he can even take on the form of a man, adding to his already impressive repertoire of abilities.



Nuclear tests in the Pacific may have either created or awakened an enormous monster that caused havoc in Tokyo in 1956. The beast was eventually trapped under the Alaskan ice and remained there until modern times. A special team composed of SHIELD veterans Dum Dum Dugan and Jimmy Woo was assembled to deal with the creature.

After Godzilla rampaged along the Pacific Coast, battling both the Champions and SHIELD’s Godzilla Squad, the monster set out on a journey across America. He clashed with Red Ronin, a giant armor, several times, and the two were forced to join forces against an alien invasion. Though Red Ronin was destroyed, Godzilla managed to defeat the Betan race’s giant monsters alone. After returning to Earth, the monster arrived in New York City and almost defeated the Fantastic Four and Avengers. However, the passionate pleas of a young member of the Godzilla Squad, Robert Takiguchi, stopped him, and Godzilla disappeared into the frigid waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

Later, Grogg was discovered by the Collector and placed in his private zoo, but was freed by the Mole Man and other monsters.

The monsters rampaged through New York City before being defeated and banished to the Negative Zone. Grogg somehow returned to Earth and was recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D. into the Howling Commandos, a squad that used supernatural means to combat supernatural threats. Grogg served as a living transport carrier for the Commandos on their missions.



Dr. Karl Lykos, also known as Sauron, is not just a dinosaur-man hybrid, but a brilliant scientist and a formidable fighter. After being bitten by a mutant pterodactyl, he gained the ability to transform himself into a living dinosaur, along with the power to absorb the life energies of mutants and use telekinesis, flight, and energy manipulation.

As a skilled psychologist, Sauron can also hypnotize his enemies, making him even more dangerous in battle. His ability to steal powers and life energies of mutants has made him a major threat to the X-Men, who have faced him multiple times. Despite his villainous tendencies, Sauron’s scientific knowledge has also made him a valuable ally to some.
