Marvel Winter Break Special #1 (One-Shot) (2025) - Full Story

If you thought the Marvel Swimsuit Special was just a one-off summer fling, think again. Marvel has returned with the Winter Break Special #1 (2025), and they’ve found a hilarious (and meta) way to get our favorite heroes out of their parkas and into… well, less, even in the freezing cold. Here is a detailed breakdown of the story, the laughs, and the sheer chaos that unfolds across the issue.

The Setup: Roxxon’s “Apology”

The issue opens not with a battle, but with a corporate press release. Dario Agger, the Minotaur CEO of Roxxon Energy, issues a public “apology” for the previous summer’s Swimsuit Special, admitting it was “in poor taste” and used AI-generated imagery (a sharp jab at real-world controversies).

But Agger isn’t really sorry. He pivots immediately to his new project: the Roxxon Climifier. He claims this device can return regional climates to their “natural states.” To prove it works, he has installed a prototype in the Savage Land, turning the tropical prehistoric jungle into a “frozen wonderland”.

We cut to the Savage Land, where Rogue and Gambit are already on the ground—and freezing. Rogue is furious that Roxxon is destroying the ecosystem she once called home. Gambit suggests calling in a crew of “like-minded mutants” and environmentally inclined heroes.

Enter the reinforcements! Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) teleports in a massive squad, including:

  • The Thing (Ben Grimm)
  • Captain America
  • Wolverine (Logan)
  • Storm
  • Johnny Storm (The Human Torch)
  • Gwenpool (acting as the official photographer).

They are greeted by Ka-Zar, Shanna the She-Devil, and Zabu, who are bundled up against the unnatural blizzard.

The “Wardrobe Malfunction”

Here is the genius plot device to justify the “Swimsuit/Pinup” vibe in a winter book: The heroes initially arrive wearing high-tech, reinforced winter gear provided by The Wasp. However, moments after arrival, a dinosaur (presumably agitated by the cold) attacks and shreds their suits to ribbons!.

Left in tatters (conveniently resembling bikinis and trunks), Ka-Zar tells them they have to keep moving to the Coast of Zahraan where the weather is worst. Gwenpool, breaking the fourth wall, is delighted because now she can get the “pinup” shots the fans want.

The Battles: Sellout Dinos

The team splits into squads to take down the Roxxon defenses.

  • Squad 1: Rogue, Gambit, and others run into Sauron. The vampiric pteranodon reveals he’s working for Roxxon because his powers have been upgraded to drain life force from a distance.
  • Squad 2: Wolverine and Captain America face off against Stegron.
  • The Twist: Why are the Dino-Men working for Roxxon? Dental insurance and stock options. Sauron and Stegron admit that as scientists, Roxxon offered them labs and benefits that super-villainy just doesn’t provide. It’s a hilarious critique of corporate employment.

Meanwhile, Jeff the Land Shark makes a cameo, proving to be a “largely undefeatable” asset to Gwenpool.

The Climax: Angoras Assemble!

The heroes reach the Climifier base. They are freezing to death. Captain America is going into “hibernation mode,” and Storm can’t control the weather because the machine is disrupting the atmosphere.

Just as the Roxxon agents prepare to finish off the frozen heroes, Gwenpool reveals she has one item left in her bag. She yells the battle cry: “ANGORAS ASSEMBLE!”.

The team dons heavy knit sweaters (J.Crew style). The Roxxon agents mock them for looking like a clothing catalog, but the warmth allows the heroes to fight back. Wolverine, Cap, and the rest dismantle the Roxxon guards while cozy and warm.

The Thaw & The Finale

With the guards down, they destroy the Climifier. The effect is instant. The Savage Land’s natural tropical climate crashes back in. The temperature rockets up, and suddenly, everyone in heavy sweaters is sweating buckets.

They frantically strip off the sweaters, revealing their “swimsuit” looks underneath just in time for the sun to come out. Gwenpool grabs her camera, shouting that this is the moment for the shiny, sparkly photos.

The story wraps up with the heroes cooling off in the water, fulfilling the promise of a “Winter Break” that turns into a tropical vacation.
