Marvel fans, rejoice — Krysten Ritter is officially returning to the role of Jessica Jones. The news was made during Disney’s Upfront presentation in New York City, confirming rumors and excitement among longtime Marvel fans.

Ritter Makes Her MCU Return

Ritter took the stage with Daredevil: Born Again lead Charlie Cox at the event to confirm her return as the hard-drinking, super-powered private eye. “It’s so great to be back,” Ritter declared at the event. “Coming back to Jessica after three seasons and The Defenders and now being a part of the MCU — this is going to be an amazing season!”

First appearing in the 2015 Netflix series Jessica Jones, Ritter’s performance as the traumatized but resilient heroine was met with critical praise. As a heroine with super strength and brief flight capabilities, her character left classical hero work behind to take on a career as a private investigator in New York City. It lasted three seasons and ended in 2019, shortly before Disney began working toward the creation of marvel shows for Disney+.

Jessica Jones Officially Joins the MCU

This reveal represents a significant step in marvel-knights-punisher-2025-1-frank-castles-nightmare/”>marvel Studios’ push to integrate its Netflix-age heroes into the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the conclusion of Netflix’s Marvel shows, there was a contractual stipulation that kept the characters out of non-Netflix fare for a minimum of two years. That two-year limit has passed, and Marvel isn’t taking its time.

Charlie Cox reprised his role as Matt Murdock in Daredevil: Born Again, which debuted on Disney+ in March 2025. The show also brought back Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, who is now the Mayor of New York, and Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, also known as The punisher. With Season 2 on the horizon, the show is bringing back more familiar faces — including Ritter’s Jessica Jones.

What to Expect in Season 2

Season 1 of Born Again concluded with Fisk taking daring actions to take New York by storm using the Red Hook port, and the stage is set for further fierce power plays. Matt Murdock, returned to his red suit and accompanied by allies Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and Frank Castle, has his plate full.

Charlie Cox also teased some new things for the next season. Fans can expect the introduction of the black Daredevil costume with the classic “interlocking Ds,” a much anticipated reference to the comics. “Season 2 is going in a big new direction,” Cox teased.

With Ritter’s return, the series expands even more, giving us a closer glimpse into the Marvel world they created on Netflix — but now officially part of the MCU.

A New Era for Marvel’s Street-Level Heroes

Jessica Jones’ return is a sign of Marvel’s increasing investment in bringing back fan favorites that introduced grit and realism to its small-screen franchise. As Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again promises to be one of the most highly regarded additions to Marvel’s Disney+ roster, audiences can look forward to emotional reunions, high-stakes action, and possibly a darker tone closer to the Netflix originals.

Season 2 is in the works, and with Ritter on board, Marvel appears set to provide an engaging continuation of its street-level epic.
