Jason Momoa is finally stepping into a role fans have been imagining for years — and this time, it’s not underwater. The actor has officially wrapped filming his scenes as Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, marking a long-awaited moment for both Momoa and DC audiences.
For Momoa, Lobo isn’t just another comic-book character. He has openly called the role his “ultimate dream,” a sentiment he has repeated across interviews and social media. Long before Aquaman made him a global star, Momoa believed he was destined to play the foul-mouthed, chaos-loving space mercenary. That belief has now come full circle.
His casting, announced in December 2024 and confirmed personally on Instagram, didn’t come as a shock to longtime fans. DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran have acknowledged Momoa’s years-long passion for the character, even referencing old messages that showed how badly he wanted the role. The official teaser released last month added fuel to the excitement, slipping in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it glimpse of Lobo around the 1:35 mark.
Recently, Momoa revealed that he has completed filming his portion of the movie. The announcement came via a casual Instagram video, where he expressed gratitude for getting the chance to finally embody the character. While the brevity of his shoot has sparked speculation that Lobo’s role may be limited, Momoa has offered reassurance in one key area: accuracy. According to him, this version of Lobo is “exactly like” the comics — a promise that suggests white skin, glowing red eyes, long black hair, and the character’s signature handlebar moustache will all make it to the screen.

The film itself centers on Kara Zor-El, played by Milly Alcock, and draws inspiration from Tom King’s Woman of Tomorrow comic miniseries. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the story follows Supergirl on a brutal quest for justice after her father is murdered, setting a darker and more emotional tone than traditional superhero fare.
Alongside Alcock and Momoa, the cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirl’s mother.
While fans wait for a proper first look at Lobo, Momoa isn’t exactly absent from theaters. He can currently be seen in A Minecraft Movie, which has already turned into a box-office hit and sparked chaotic scenes in cinemas worldwide.
As for Supergirl, the countdown is officially on. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026 — and even if Lobo’s screen time is brief, Momoa’s long-promised debut as the galaxy’s most unhinged bounty hunter already feels like a defining moment for DC’s new era.
