“It was all very well to be ambitious, but ambition should not kill the nice qualities in you.”

— by Noel Streatfeild (Ballet Shoes)

Being ambitious is good but being over ambitious can be dangerous for one’s individual identity. This quote of  Noel Streatfeild beautifully puts across the effects of being over ambitious. In Today’s time life is all about winning, achieving, doing big in life. The hustle culture has taken over, which talks about hard work, motivation and success. People are too much drawn into this. Which has made us very ambitious in life. Working hard achieving your goals and fulfilling one’s dream is not wrong. And being ambitious in life is good. There is nothing bad about it. But the problem arises when we become over ambitious. It’s said that too much of nothing is good, same goes for ambitions in life.

Difference Between Ambition and Greed

Ambition and greed are both strong desires, but they differ in their focus and motivation. Ambition is a desire to achieve a specific goal or achieve success in a particular area. It is typically driven by a desire to improve one’s own life or the lives of others. Ambition can be a positive force, as it can motivate people to work hard and achieve their goals. Greed, on the other hand, is a strong desire for material wealth or power, often at the expense of others. It is driven by an insatiable desire for more, regardless of the consequences or cost to others. Greed can be a negative force, as it can lead people to make selfish or unethical decisions in pursuit of their own gain.

The key difference between ambition and greed is the motivation behind the desire. Ambition is driven by a desire to achieve a specific goal or improve one’s life or the lives of others, while greed is driven by an insatiable desire for material wealth or power, often at the expense of others.

Our Perspective

It was all very well to be ambitious, but ambition should not kill the nice qualities in you
It was all very well to be ambitious, but ambition should not kill the nice qualities in you

Ambition can be a powerful motivator, but it’s important to remember that it’s not the only thing that matters in life. It’s important to maintain a balance and not let ambition consume you or cause you to lose sight of your values and the things that are important to you. It’s also important to remember to be kind and considerate of others, even as you pursue your goals. It’s possible to be ambitious and still maintain a sense of compassion and empathy for others.

We need to understand that ambition is for life, it should not take over one’s life. At times we are too much invested in our ambitions. Our dreams become bigger than everything. It becomes bigger than our family, friends, health and even life. Chasing dreams is great but getting lost in your own dreams is deadly. At times we tend to lose everything for our ambitions. We even lose ourselves and our personality in the process. All said and done, what will be the use of that ambition after losing everything in life. What use will the success be if we lose our personality traits and life in way of achieving our success.
