Captain America, also known as Steve Rogers, is one of the most iconic characters in the Marvel Universe. From his iconic debut in World War II to his modern-day adventures, Steve Rogers has traversed decades, but how old is Captain America/Steve Rogers really? This article delves into the different aspects of Captain America’s age, taking into account various timelines and interpretations.

Steve Rogers’ Birth and Early Life

Steve Rogers was born on July 4, 1918, in Brooklyn, New York. This birthdate places him firmly in the early 20th century, where he grew up during the Great Depression before enlisting in the U.S. Army during World War II. Due to his frail physical condition, he was initially rejected from service but later volunteered for Project Rebirth, where he was transformed into the super-soldier Captain America.

The Impact of Being Frozen in Ice

During the final days of World War II, in 1945, Steve Rogers crash-landed a plane in the Arctic to prevent a bomb from detonating in a populated area. This act of heroism led to him being frozen in ice, where he remained in suspended animation for approximately 66 years. He was eventually found and thawed out in the early 21st century, specifically around 2011 in the marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) timeline.

When Captain America was unfrozen, he was biologically in his late twenties or early thirties, but chronologically, he was much older. The super-soldier serum in his veins allowed him to maintain his youth and physical capabilities despite the passage of time.

The Age of Captain America in the MCU

In the MCU, Steve Rogers’ age becomes particularly interesting due to the events depicted in the movie Avengers: Endgame. As per the movie, Steve was born in 1918, making him 27 years old when he went into the ice in 1945. When he was thawed out in 2011, he was still biologically 27 years old, though chronologically he was 93.

By the time Avengers: Endgame takes place in 2023, Steve Rogers is biologically around 39 years old, due to the 12 years that have passed since his thawing. However, the movie reveals that Steve Rogers traveled back in time to live out his life with Peggy Carter, and when he reappears in the present, he is depicted as an elderly man.

Steve Rogers’ Final Age

At the end of Avengers: Endgame, it is revealed that Steve Rogers had lived a full life with Peggy Carter after returning to the 1940s. Based on his birth year of 1918 and the events shown, Steve is around 106 years old when he passes on his shield to Sam Wilson, the Falcon, in 2023. This age is confirmed by the film’s visual effects team, who designed the elderly Steve Rogers to reflect his 106 years.
