Hulu has just released an exciting new trailer and poster for the Hit-Monkey Season 2, the Marvel animated series from 20th Television Animation. This series, created before Disney’s acquisition and subsequent reconfiguration of Marvel’s animation projects, has garnered significant attention and anticipation. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming season.

A New Mission in NYC

In the first season, Hit-Monkey focused on the titular character’s relentless quest for revenge within the Tokyo underworld. Hit-Monkey, a Japanese snow monkey, teamed up with the ghost of an American assassin named Bryce. Together, they carved a bloody path through the Yakuza, driven by a shared need for vengeance. By the end of the season, Hit-Monkey had achieved his goal and was smuggled out of Japan by Haruka, an unexpected ally who had a dynamic character turnaround.

Now, in season 2, the story shifts to New York City. Hit-Monkey, accompanied by Bryce, is on a new mission. The trailer teases intense action sequences and a fresh set of challenges as the duo navigates the dangerous streets of NYC. This season promises to explore Hit-Monkey’s struggle to escape his violent past while Bryce attempts to make amends for the wrongs he committed during his lifetime.

Star-Studded Cast and Creative Team

Hit-Monkey boasts an impressive cast, including Leslie Jones, Ally Maki, Cristin Milioti, Olivia Munn, Fred Tatasciore, and Jason Sudeikis. The series is co-created and executive produced by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, with animation provided by Floyd County Productions under the production of 20th Television Animation.

“We have been obsessed with Hit-Monkey for about 10 years and actually pitched it to marvel repeatedly,” Gordon shared with ComicBook in 2021. He recounted the persistent efforts to bring the project to life, culminating in a “hail mary” letter sent to Marvel’s production arms, which finally led to the show’s creation. The decision to make Hit-Monkey an animated series was driven by the high production costs of a live-action adaptation and the potential for a cinematic animated version.

Synopsis of Season 2

The official synopsis for season 2 provides a glimpse into the upcoming storyline:

“A Japanese snow monkey, aided by the ghost of an American assassin, goes on a killing spree and becomes the famous ‘killer of killers.’ In New York City, Monkey finds a path to escape his life of killing, while Bryce attempts to repair the damage to those he wronged in life. But what will it cost them to undo the past?”

This summary hints at the emotional and psychological complexities the characters will face as they seek redemption and a way out of their violent ways. The backdrop of New York City offers a stark contrast to the first season’s Tokyo setting, promising new dynamics and encounters.

Cult Following and Anticipation

Hit-Monkey has developed a cult following, with fans eagerly awaiting the continuation of the monkey assassin’s story. The creative team’s passion for the project and their decade-long dedication to bringing it to fruition have paid off, resulting in a unique and compelling animated series that stands out in the marvel Universe.

The new trailer, packed with action and glimpses of the challenges ahead, has only fueled the excitement. Fans are keen to see how Hit-Monkey and Bryce navigate their new environment and what new threats and allies they will encounter.
