In the pages of “Masters of the Universe: Forge of Destiny ,” which takes place during the early days of He-Man’s heroic career, we witness Skeletor’s relentless pursuit of power and his diabolical plan to steal the coveted Power of Grayskull for himself. However, despite his cunning and determination, Skeletor is destined to face failure repeatedly, and the Sorceress sheds light on the underlying reason behind his perpetual defeats.

Penned by the talented writer Tim Seeley, illustrated by the skilled artist Eddie Nunez, brought to life with vibrant colors by Brad Simpson, and expertly lettered by Andworld Design, this comic explores the eternal struggle between He-Man and his arch-nemesis, Skeletor.

As the Sorceress imparts her wisdom, she unravels the Mystery of Eternia’s unconquerable nature. Throughout history, many have sought to conquer this mystical realm, yet all have met with defeat. The key, she explains, lies in understanding the delicate equilibrium that governs the planet.

Eternia’s balance, often referred to as its “equilibrium,” is an intricate web of mystical forces that intertwine to maintain harmony and prevent domination by any single entity. Those who have attempted to seize power without comprehending this delicate balance have found themselves thwarted at every turn.

It is this very lack of understanding that the Sorceress identifies as Skeletor’s fatal flaw. No matter how potent his dark magic or how cunning his schemes, Skeletor’s failure to grasp the fundamental equilibrium of Eternia ensures that he will always fall short in his quest for ultimate power.

Eternia ensures its own resistance against conquest

Skeletor, the notorious arch-nemesis of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, has been a symbol of malevolence since the franchise’s inception more than four decades ago. Over the years, his origins have taken various forms, but the original toy line portrayed him as a sinister interdimensional entity who coveted Eternia as the ultimate prize. The newly introduced “Forge of Destiny” storyline delves into this narrative. Regardless of his origin, Skeletor has persistently strived to conquer Eternia and lay claim to the coveted Power of Grayskull. Yet, in each attempt, he is foiled by He-Man and the valiant Masters of the Universe. Now, “Forge of Destiny” hints at a deeper motive behind this recurring defeat.

Within the expansive world of the Masters of the Universe, a unique harmony exists between magic and modern science. Man-At-Arms, the leader of King Randor’s military forces, employs cutting-edge weaponry and vehicles to safeguard Eternia. Simultaneously, magic plays an integral role in the lives of Eternia’s inhabitants, with the magician Orko providing both entertainment and moral support, while He-Man himself draws power from a mystical source. These two seemingly opposing forces have always coexisted harmoniously. “Forge of Destiny” offers an intriguing revelation – Eternia serves as a cosmic balance.

The initial installment of this saga elucidates that this equilibrium has deterred many would-be conquerors, including Skeletor. Throughout the franchise’s history, Skeletor has hatched countless schemes to vanquish He-Man and seize control of the Power of Grayskull, only to be repeatedly vanquished. Given that “Forge of Destiny” adheres to Skeletor’s classic origin, it introduces another facet to explain his perpetual defeat. Skeletor is not a native of Eternia; he hails from an alternate dimension. Consequently, he remains incapable of comprehending the intricate harmony between science and magic that defines Eternia. Skeletor cannot fathom, let alone harness, the delicate equilibrium that enables He-Man’s triumphs time and again.
