What we spotted in Blue Beetle Trailer

  • The Blue Beetle movie trailer kicks off with Xolo Maridueña, our dashing protagonist, Jaime Reyes. This guy wasn’t around until 2006, created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hamner. He’s the third hero to carry the Blue Beetle name in DC Comics history, but he’s a bit of a youngster compared to his predecessors, Dan Garrett and Ted Kord. In fact, his story shakes up the Blue Beetle game like a snow globe on a bumpy road – it’s a whole new take on the character concept!
  • In the comics, Jaime’s heroic escapades all go down in El Paso, Texas. But guess what? The movie’s decided to mix things up by introducing a brand spanking new fictional city called Palmera. And get this, Palmera City has now officially made it into DC Comics canon, thanks to the latest miniseries by Josh Trujillo, Adrian Gutierrez, and Wil Quintana, called Blue Beetle: Graduation Day. That’s right, the movie’s making waves in the comic book world!
  • In the Blue Beetle movie, we’ll see our hero, Jaime, start out in the hotel industry before being pulled into the orbit of Kord Industries. And let me tell you, this company is major! It’s a scientific and technological corporation, kinda like STAR Labs in the DC Universe. But get this: it was founded by the second Blue Beetle, Ted Kord, and stands for “Kord Omniversal Research and Development.” In the comics, Ted usually leads the company himself, but in the movie, his sister Victoria is in charge. Will Jaime be able to keep up with the high-tech world of Kord Industries? Only time will tell!

  • Hold on to your burgers, folks, because this is a DC Comics Easter egg you won’t want to miss! In the Blue Beetle movie, Jaime is entrusted with a super important package that he must keep safe at all costs. And where is this package hidden, you ask? In a humble hamburger box from Big Belly Burger – one of the biggest fast food chains in the DC universe! This franchise has been around since 1988 when it was created by John Byrne and Jerry Ordway for The Adventures of Superman, and it’s since made appearances in various DC shows like Arrow and The Flash. So, if you’re a DC fan and a fast food lover, this reference is sure to satisfy your cravings!
  • Inside the seemingly harmless Big Belly Burger box lies an alien scarab that fuses with Jaime’s spine, morphing him into the incredible Blue Beetle. This marks a significant departure from previous Blue Beetles. Dan Garrett drew power from an ancient Egyptian scarab, while Ted Kord had to rely on his own technological genius. Jaime’s scarab, on the other hand, is a product of an intergalactic conqueror race called the Reach. These scarabs were sent across the universe to find a host that could be manipulated into becoming a sleeper agent for the Reach. Eventually, Jaime’s scarab, which initially caused him unbearable pain, starts communicating with him in English rather than its alien tongue. The scarab even gives itself a name – Kaji Dha – a nod to the quote Dan Garrett would use to transform into the Blue Beetle.
  • It’s no wonder that there are some shady characters out there who are itching to get their grubby little paws on it. Enter Victoria Kord, played by none other than Susan Sarandon in the movie. She was created specifically for the film, but she’s recently made her way into the comics in Blue Beetle: Graduation Day. In the comics, Victoria is Ted’s older sis and runs Kord Industries while he’s off saving the world as a superhero. But in the movie, she seems to have her sights set on the Scarab and all the power that comes with it.
  • let me tell you about the movie’s other villain, played by the talented Raoul Max Trujillo! He’s portraying the notorious Conrad Carapax, a mercenary with a long and storied history in the Blue Beetle comics. This guy first appeared as an enemy of Ted Kord in the 1980s, but get this: he used to be a rival of Dan Garrett, the very first Blue Beetle. And get this – his mind was infused into a seemingly-indestructible robot body that was hidden away on Pago Island. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like something straight out of a sci-fi movie. Watch out, Blue Beetle – this villain’s got some serious upgrades!
