Shadowhunters is based on Cassandra Claire’s urban fantasy YA series, ‘The Mortal Instruments’. It dives into the life of Clary Fray, who discovers that demons, werewolves, vampires are real, and that she is a shadowhunter. The series follows her as she comes to terms with her identity and meets new challenges.
Thirteen Reasons Why
This series made quite a buzz in the cinephile community when it came out in 2017. Based on a novel of the same name by Jay Asher, this show shows Hannah Baker who commits suicide. As she takes this drastic decision, she leaves 13 tapes for the 13 people who contributed in some way to her decision. And one of the recipients is our protagonist Clay Jensen.
Delirium
This is a dystopian fiction novel by Lauren Oliver, and takes place in a world where love is forbidden. As you might expect, our protagonists fall in love and face severe challenges.
Shadow and Bone
Netflix recently remade Leigh Bardugo’s hugely popular YA series into a TV show. The series is set in a fictional world called Ravka, torn apart into two factions by the Shadow Fold. This is an area of utter darkness where dangerous cannibalistic creatures lurk. Alina Starkov is our protagonist. She accidentally unleashes a great power and saves the life of her best friend when he is in danger.
His Dark Materials
This is based on a fantasy series of the same name written by Philip Pullman. Set in a multiverse, the series follows the life of an orphan named Lyra. Her soul manifests as her companion animal, and she sets out in search of a mysterious element called Dust. This quest assumes a gigantic proportion when she is required to travel across worlds.
Looking For Alaska
Based on John Green’s novel of the same name, this story follows the relationship of two characters, Miles and Alaska as they fall in love.
Love, Simon
This series is an adaptation of Becky Albertalli’s YA novel ‘Simons Vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda’. It’s an exploration of Simon’s homosexual identity as someone blackmails him, he falls for an adorable boy and secrets threaten to spil.
Normal People
Award winning Sally Rooney’s novel of the same name is the story of two highschoolers, the popular, outgoing Connell and the shy and proud Marianne.
Huge
Sasha Paley’s novel follows two young adults, April and Will as they fall in love while spending summer together at a weight loss camp.
