Andrew Garfield Denies Spider-Man 4 Role Amid Fan Speculation

Andrew Garfield has put an end to swirling rumors about his potential return to the Spider-Man franchise, but fans remain skeptical due to his previous denials regarding Spider-Man: No Way Home. Speaking to GQ UK, the actor, who played the web-slinging superhero in The Amazing Spider-Man series, was firm in his response to the recent reports.

“I’m gonna disappoint you. Yeah, no,” Garfield said when asked about signing on for Spider-Man 4. Aware of the shadow of doubt cast by his vehement denials of his role in No Way Home, he added, “I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on.”

Garfield’s comments come in the wake of fan excitement following his multiverse team-up with Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire in No Way Home (2021), a film that became a cultural phenomenon for uniting three generations of Spider-Men. Despite the fervor, Garfield remains cautious about stepping into another big franchise unless the project aligns with his creative instincts.

“If it felt in line with my soul and was gonna be fun,” he shared when asked about revisiting a major blockbuster role. He also jokingly acknowledged that life circumstances, such as saving for future family expenses, might one day influence his decision.

In previous interviews, Garfield expressed love for the Spider-Man character, emphasizing that his return would need to bring something fresh to the table. “I would 100 percent come back if it was the right thing—if it’s additive to the culture, if there’s a great concept, or something unique and exciting,” he told Esquire last year.

While Garfield has shut down rumors, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) continues to expand its Spider-Man storyline. The next installment, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, is set to release on July 24, 2026. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Jeff Nathanson, the project is scheduled to begin production this summer.

Fans might still hold out hope for Garfield’s return in a future multiverse project, but for now, the actor seems content focusing on roles that challenge him artistically—unless the perfect Spider-Man opportunity swings his way.
