Defy The Night by Brigid Kemmerer is a wonderful and exciting start of a series. I liked each character and each piece of the story was fulfilling. The storyline was fast moving, interesting and kept you needing more. I never want to leave these characters and this world. From the very first unexpected twist to the following, this was one book I couldn’t put down for long, and I am so happy I didn’t.
Tessa Cade is sick of seeing her neighbours suffering and dying from the illness that ravishes the kingdom of Kandala. She tried to do what she can by taking Moonflower petals, blending an elixir and distributing the treatment with her dearest friend Wes in the dead of night. Rumours are spreading that the remedy may at this point don’t work and rumblings of a rebellion are getting stronger constantly. Ruler Karristan and his sibling Corrick can just depend on one another after their parents were ruthlessly betrayed and killed. With the illness worsening inside and outside the royal residence, and the Moonflower petal supply restricted, the kingdom is near the very edge of disaster.
The character development and world building is perfectly done in Defy the Night. Tessa and Corrick are my favourite characters from this novel . There was a lot of passion and heat in each moment they exchanged. I really liked that the Robin hood element to this story was taking medicine for the sick. I felt the fear and urgency from every one of the characters and I was so happy that it wasn’t easy to hate any of the characters.
Overall! Defy The Night by Brigid Kemmerer is a must read. The speed and plot flowed without any problem. The action part was interesting and I was sucked into the tension and romance. I am eagerly waiting for a continuation.
