Warner Bros. is expanding its anime-inspired storytelling with a new twist on one of its most enduring franchises. The studio has officially confirmed Scooby-Doo! Gokko, a collection of anime-style shorts centered on Scooby-Doo and Shaggy, scheduled to debut in 2027.
Unlike a full-length series, Scooby-Doo! Gokko will adopt a short-format structure similar to Tom & Jerry Gokko, another Warner Bros. project that reinterpreted the classic cat-and-mouse duo in a chibi, “kawaii” aesthetic. The upcoming shorts will present a more playful and stylized version of the beloved characters, featuring simplified, expressive designs and lighter, self-contained adventures.
The project was officially revealed at a promotional event in Brazil, accompanied by preview images but few specific details. Early reports suggest the focus will center on Scooby and Shaggy, rather than the entire Mystery Inc. team. Warner Bros. clarified that Scooby-Doo! Gokko is an independent production and not related to the previously announced anime project Go-Go Mystery Machine, which remains in development.
First introduced at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2024, Go-Go Mystery Machine was described as a narrative-driven series following Scooby and Shaggy on a culinary adventure across Japan. The duo accidentally releases hundreds of mischievous Yokai spirits, setting off a chain of supernatural mysteries. Accompanied by Scooby’s uncle Daisuke-Doo, magical ally Etsuko, and gadget expert Toshiro, the pair must capture the creatures while exploring Japanese folklore.
While updates on Go-Go Mystery Machine have been limited, the confirmation of Scooby-Doo! Gokko indicates Warner Bros.’s continued investment in anime-inspired properties. The studio has previously ventured into similar territory with productions such as Batman Ninja (2018), Blade Runner: Black Lotus (2021), and RWBY: Ice Queendom (2022), showcasing a willingness to reinterpret its Western characters through distinct Japanese visual and storytelling frameworks.
With Scooby-Doo! Gokko, Warner Bros. positions the mystery-solving franchise at the forefront of this creative experimentation.
