Directed once again by franchise veteran Francis Lawrence, Sunrise on the Reaping explores the events surrounding the 50th Hunger Games—widely remembered as the Second Quarter Quell. The story dives deep into the early days of Panem’s infamous televised competitions, centering particularly on a young Haymitch Abernathy long before his mentorship of Katniss and Peeta. The screenplay has been penned by Oscar-nominated writer Billy Ray, promising a dramatic and faithful adaptation of Collins’ latest work.
The cast features an impressive ensemble that includes Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy, McKenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, Ben Wang, Billy Porter, Glenn Close, Ralph Fiennes, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, and Elle Fanning taking on the beloved Capitol escort Effie Trinket.
