Dark Horse Comics is bringing fans back to the mysterious small town of Patience, USA, with the launch of a brand-new arc in the acclaimed Resident Alien comic series. Titled Resident Alien: The Book of Changes, this four-issue story marks the next phase in Harry Vanderspeigle’s extraordinary journey. Written by Peter Hogan (Tom Strong) and illustrated by Steve Parkhouse (Bojeffries Saga), the new series arrives in comic shops on August 20, 2025.

The Story Picks Up After Big Changes

The latest installment continues the life of Harry, the alien biologist stranded on Earth who has been living under the guise of retired doctor Harry Vanderspeigle. Having built a new life with his human partner Asta Twelvetrees, the couple now face parenthood after welcoming their child, Clover. But their growing family life takes an unexpected turn when several visitors from Harry’s home planet arrive in Patience.

Keeping up appearances in a small town is hard enough, but hiding the existence of multiple aliens may prove even more challenging than raising a newborn. As writer Peter Hogan teased, “There’s more than one alien in town now – and they’re planning to change the world.”

Agent Jones Returns

Fans can also expect the return of Agent Jones, a character whose presence always brings trouble for Harry. His reappearance signals new conflicts and possibly deeper investigations into Harry’s double life. With new extraterrestrial guests, local suspicions, and old threats resurfacing, Harry’s secret may be harder than ever to protect.

A Legacy of Mystery and Humanity

First debuting in 2012, Resident Alien has spanned eight volumes, weaving together elements of mystery, science fiction, and small-town drama. At its heart, the series explores Harry’s attempts to understand humanity while solving local crimes and navigating interstellar dangers.

The series quickly became a fan favorite, thanks to Hogan and Parkhouse’s engaging storytelling and artwork. It later found wider recognition with the SyFy and USA television adaptation that premiered in 2021. Starring Alan Tudyk as Harry, the show ran for four seasons and earned glowing reviews. With a near-perfect 98% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 87% audience approval rating, the adaptation cemented Resident Alien as a beloved franchise.
