The Book of Accidents by Chuck Wendig Is a terrifying page-turning tale. Chuck has an amazing method of carrying you into a story with people that you believe you know, could live nearby to you, and afterwards it starts to twist, little twists that take it to places that you are certain you would prefer not to go to. However, by then you are totally hooked by these characters and what is happening to them makes your skin crawl.
In The Book of Accidents we meet the Graves family – cop Nate, his artist spouse Maddie, and their teen son Oliver. Regardless of their loving, affectionate nuclear family, every one of them is battling in their own particular manner: Nate, with the ghost of his dad and the maltreatment inflicted on him as a kid, Maddie, with the things she can’t quit recalling from her own youth, and Ollie, who sees and feels a lot of every other person’s pain.
Presently, those things alone would make a convincing story, But, there are few things additional. Since when Nate’s dad died and the family moves into his childhood home, each horrible bit of the past gets mixed up and blended in with the other awful things occurring in the present. Like Ollie’s new companion Jake, a drug dealer who additionally dabbles in dark wizardry. Then again the serial killer who may or may not have been executed for his killings.
There’s a lot of terrific horror in this novel. Chuck Wendig isn’t just a great horror writer, he’s a really good author, regardless of genre. Because duckies, I can not say enough regarding these characters. Our main storytellers are the Graveses (Gravii?), and I love them all. Imperfect, hurting fighters who will do anything possible for one another, even as they now and then lose fights with themselves. Their affection, pain and heartbreak made me feel emotional.
The pacing is perfect, the tension throughout the story ramps up until my psyche was a guitar string pulled to its final point. The Book of Accidents by Chuck Wendig is a long book, but never felt that it was too long. I was immersed in the story. This is a marvellous read that will have you hooked. Highly recommended! As far as my recommendation is concerned.
