The witches of Oz are back—and this time, the stakes are higher than ever. Universal Pictures has officially released the trailer for Wicked: For Good, the second and final installment in the two-part adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical. A Long-Awaited Return to Oz

After nearly a year since Wicked: Part One premiered in November 2024, fans are finally getting a deeper look into what comes next for the witches of Oz. The trailer for Wicked: For Good, revealed on June 4, teases an intense continuation filled with conflict, friendship, and the unraveling of truths long buried beneath Oz’s glittering façade.

The film picks up right after Elphaba’s powerful “Defying Gravity” moment, with the misunderstood witch now a fugitive across the land. Meanwhile, Glinda has risen in status and is adored by the people of Oz as Glinda the Good. But beneath the surface lies a tale of manipulation, propaganda, and broken bonds.

The Cast Reunites for the Final Chapter

The sequel brings back its star-studded ensemble. Cynthia Erivo returns as Elphaba, while Ariana Grande reprises her role as Glinda. Jonathan Bailey is back as Prince Fiyero, caught in a love triangle that challenges loyalty and identity. Also returning are Michelle Yeoh as the cunning Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as the deceptive Wizard of Oz, and Marissa Bode as Nessarose.

New glimpses in the trailer also showcase Ethan Slater as Boq—now on the path to becoming the Tin Man—and Bowen Yang as Pfannee. The second film explores how these iconic characters from The Wizard of Oz came to be, tying their origins to the events following Elphaba’s rebellion.

New Songs and Familiar Tunes

While the first movie aligned with Act 1 of the original Broadway show, Wicked: For Good will adapt Act 2 and even introduce two new songs, as confirmed by composer Stephen Schwartz. Long-time fans can also expect emotional performances of signature numbers like “No Good Deed” and the poignant duet “For Good”, which inspired the film’s title.

The musical themes hint at a deeper emotional arc between Elphaba and Glinda, whose friendship becomes strained amid rising political tension and personal loss. Their journey from best friends to adversaries—and perhaps back again—is at the emotional core of the sequel.

Revisiting the Yellow Brick Road—With a Twist

This second part of the saga will reframe many of the familiar events from the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz. Expect to see Dorothy and her companions—Tin Man, Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion—heading down the Yellow Brick Road. But in Wicked, we learn their true backstories: Boq’s transformation into the Tin Man, Fiyero becoming the Scarecrow, and the lion cub from Part One maturing into the Cowardly Lion.

We also discover that it was Madame Morrible who conjured the tornado that brought Dorothy to Oz and killed Nessarose, the Wicked Witch of the East. These revelations add new layers to the supposedly black-and-white world of Oz, showing how labels like “good” and “wicked” are far more complicated than they seem.

Glinda vs. Elphaba: A Friendship on the Brink

A major theme in Wicked: For Good is the fractured bond between Elphaba and Glinda. Once roommates and allies at Shiz University, they find themselves on opposite sides of a dangerous ideological divide. Glinda, now a public figure and face of order, must wrestle with the system she supports, while Elphaba remains hunted and vilified for challenging it.

The trailer offers a glimpse of Glinda summoning Elphaba, even as Oz’s forces—led by Morrible, the Wizard, and Fiyero—hunt her down. As propaganda against Elphaba intensifies, the film explores themes of loyalty, truth, and the cost of standing up for what you believe in.

A Spectacle On and Off Screen

Directed by Jon M. Chu, Wicked: For Good will not only close out one of Broadway’s most beloved stories but will also be accompanied by an extensive global press tour and a glamorous red carpet premiere. The film’s style, musical numbers, and costume design are expected to once again dominate pop culture conversation.

Although a streaming release date hasn’t been confirmed, if Universal follows the same timeline as the first movie—released on Peacock four months after its theatrical debut—fans can likely expect Wicked: For Good to be available for home viewing by March 2026.
