Phil Robertson, the bearded patriarch of A&E’s hit reality show Duck Dynasty, has passed away at the age of 79. His family confirmed the news on Sunday, May 25, through a series of heartfelt social media tributes.
Remembering a Life of Faith and Family
Phil’s daughter-in-law Korie Robertson shared a message on Facebook on behalf of the family, writing, “We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord.” Korie, married to Phil’s son Willie Robertson, also thanked fans and supporters for their love and prayers, acknowledging how many lives were touched by Phil’s life and faith.
A Public Tribute to Follow
While the family will hold a private funeral service, they plan to host a public celebration of Phil’s life at a later date. The Robertson family expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support from fans and emphasized that details of the public event will be announced soon.
A Battle with Alzheimer’s
In December, the family had revealed that Phil had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Despite the difficult diagnosis, the Robertson family continued to lean on their strong Christian faith. On Sunday, Phil’s son Jase Robertson wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “My dad has gone to be with the Lord today! He will be missed but we know he is in good hands, and our family is good because God is very good! We will see him again!”
Granddaughter Sadie Robertson Huff also honored her grandfather with an emotional Instagram post featuring family photos from over the years.
From Duck Calls to Reality TV Fame
Born in Vivian, Louisiana, Phil Robertson founded Duck Commander in West Monroe, creating custom duck calls that gained nationwide attention. That business eventually launched Duck Dynasty, a reality show that aired from 2012 to 2017 and made the Robertson family household names.
Beyond Duck Dynasty, Phil appeared in and created other shows such as Duck Commander (2009) and In the Woods with Phil (2017), each focusing on faith, family, and the outdoor lifestyle.
