Fans of Heartstopper, get ready to say both “hello” and “goodbye” one last time. Netflix has officially announced a Heartstopper feature film that will conclude the beloved story of Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) and Charlie Spring (Joe Locke). While the news comes after months of uncertainty about the show’s future, it’s clear that Heartstopper will be getting the heartfelt ending it deserves.
The Journey to the Big Screen
The announcement came on April 22, 2025, exactly three years after Heartstopper first debuted. After Season 3’s bittersweet finale, many were hoping for a fourth season. Instead, the story will continue—and end—with a movie. The feature will serve as a direct adaptation of the upcoming sixth and final Heartstopper graphic novel by creator Alice Oseman, as well as drawing elements from Oseman’s Nick and Charlie novella.
Season 1 of Heartstopper covered Volumes 1 and 2 of the graphic novel, Season 2 adapted Volume 3, and Season 3 brought Volumes 4 and 5 to life. Since Volume 6 is still in progress, Oseman has indicated they aim to publish it before the movie’s release.
Returning Stars and Creative Team
Kit Connor and Joe Locke will not only reprise their roles but also join the project as executive producers, a testament to their deep connection with the characters and the series. They will be joined by executive producers Alice Oseman, Patrick Walters, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, and Euros Lyn.
Wash Westmoreland, best known for directing Still Alice and Colette, will step behind the camera to direct the film. He succeeds Euros Lyn, who helmed the first two seasons, and Andy Newbery, who directed Season 3.
See-Saw Films, the production company behind the series, returns to produce the feature film, with filming slated to begin in summer 2025.

Picking up after the events of Season 3, the Heartstopper movie will dive into the next chapter of Nick and Charlie’s relationship. Having grown inseparable, the two face the looming reality of Nick preparing for university and Charlie becoming more independent at school. Despite Season 3 seeing a dip in viewership—drawing 10.9 million views compared to Season 2’s numbers—the series maintained its cultural relevance. It continued to shine with a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score and tackled critical issues like mental health with sensitivity and authenticity.
The enduring popularity of Heartstopper across TV, social media, music, and the publishing world played a major role in convincing Netflix to greenlight the movie. It follows the precedent set by other beloved shows like Sense8, Timeless, and Deadwood, which were each given movie finales to properly conclude their Stories.
Cast’s Commitment to a Proper Ending
Behind the scenes, securing the return of Kit Connor and Joe Locke was no small feat. Since their rise to fame, both actors have been booked and busy—Connor with his role in Warfare and Locke starring in Disney+’s Agatha All Along.
Despite their packed schedules, both expressed a deep desire to return and finish the story the right way. “I’d definitely like to do it as long as it’s done right,” Connor said recently. “I just want to make sure that we keep the heart in it.”
Their passion for Heartstopper and its legacy ensured that Nick and Charlie’s journey would reach a meaningful conclusion.
