Netflix has unveiled plans for a new sitcom from the prolific creator Chuck Lorre, in collaboration with comedian Leanne Morgan and writer Susan McMartin. This announcement builds upon Lorre’s previous successful ventures with the streaming giant, including the critically acclaimed series “The Kominsky Method,” which garnered multiple Golden Globe Awards.
Leanne Morgan, known for her distinctive comedic style, will take the lead in the as-yet-untitled series, which also marks a continuation of her relationship with Netflix following her popular comedy special last year. The plot centers around Morgan’s character, who faces the daunting challenge of reinventing her life after her long-time husband leaves her for another woman. Set against the backdrop of menopause and the responsibilities of being a grandmother, the series promises to blend humor with the poignant realities of starting anew.
Chuck Lorre, alongside his role as co-creator, will also serve as an executive producer together with Morgan, McMartin, and Judi Marmel. The team is rounded out by Lorre’s production company, Chuck Lorre Productions, Inc., and Warner Bros. Television, ensuring a solid backing of industry expertise.
In discussing the project, Lorre praised Morgan’s unique ability to meld humor with heartfelt storytelling, highlighting her as an ideal lead for a series centered on resilience and reinvention. Morgan herself expressed her elation at seeing her childhood dream materialize, reflecting on her journey from a Tennessee grandmother to a Netflix star.
Tracey Pakosta, Netflix’s Head of Comedy, expressed enthusiasm about deepening ties with Morgan and reuniting with Lorre, anticipating that their collective creative vision will lead to another standout comedy series for the platform.
