Gotta Go Fast… to the Card Shop!
Sonic the Hedgehog is trading gold rings for mana as Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast team up with Sega for an electrifying new crossover. This July, fans of both Magic: The Gathering (MTG) and the Sonic the Hedgehog universe can look forward to three exclusive “Secret Lair” collections that blend Sonic’s high-speed world with Magic’s legendary card mechanics. These special sets will be available for a limited time starting July 14 at 9 a.m. PT on MagicSecretLair.com.

What Is Secret Lair?
For those new to MTG’s collectible format, Secret Lair is a series of limited-time, specially themed card drops featuring exclusive artwork, reskins, and unique designs. Unlike the typical expansions from Wizards of the Coast, these cards are often cross-media collaborations and are highly sought after by collectors and fans alike.

Meet the Sonic-Inspired Collections
This collaboration brings fans three unique sets:

  1. Secret Lair x Sonic: Friends & Foes
  2. Secret Lair x Sonic: Chasing Adventure
  3. Secret Lair x Sonic: Turbo Gear

Each of these sets features a variety of characters, iconic items, and thematic spells from the Sonic universe, all beautifully reimagined through original Magic: The Gathering artwork—some of it crafted by longtime Sonic fan-favorite artists making their debut in the MTG world.

Secret Lair x Sonic: Friends & Foes

This is the flagship drop of the trio and includes seven new, original cards featuring iconic Sonic characters, including:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Super State (Golden Sonic-themed enchantment)
  • Shadow the Hedgehog
  • Miles “Tails” Prower
  • Knuckles the Echidna
  • Amy Rose
  • Dr. Eggman

This set doesn’t just bring the characters to life with fresh designs—it also introduces vibrant, original artwork, giving fans a new way to celebrate their favorite hedgehog and his allies (and enemies). It’s available in two formats:

  • Standard Edition: $39.99
  • Foil Edition: $49.99

Secret Lair x Sonic: Chasing Adventure

This set puts a Sonic-themed spin on several of Magic’s iconic instants, sorceries, and artifacts. Rather than just showing off characters, Chasing Adventure is all about the world and story of Sonic—infused into classic gameplay mechanics. Some notable reimagined cards include:

  • Sol Ring
  • Generous Gift
  • Deadly Dispute
  • Fabricate
  • Open the Armory
  • Unexpected Windfall
  • Treasure Token

This drop is available for:

  • Standard Edition: $29.99
  • Foil Edition: $39.99

Secret Lair x Sonic: Turbo Gear

If you’re into Sonic’s legendary gear and gadgets, Turbo Gear is your set. This collection transforms MTG’s most iconic equipment and vehicles into Sonic-themed legendary artifacts:

  • Knuckles’ Gloves (Reaver Cleaver)
  • Power Sneakers (Lightning Greaves)
  • Piko Piko Hammer (Hammer of Nazahn)
  • Egg Hammer (Myr Battlesphere)
  • Air Shoes (Swiftfoot Boots)
  • Tornado, Sonic’s Biplane (Weatherlight)
  • Egg Pawn Token (Myr Token)

This drop is also priced at:

  • Standard Edition: $29.99
  • Foil Edition: $39.99

More Than a Gimmick—A Crossover Done Right

While this Sonic collaboration is limited to Secret Lair, its release comes right after Wizards’ major partnership with Square Enix for the Final Fantasy card collection. But where Final Fantasy had a full-scale expansion, the Sonic crossover leans into what makes Secret Lair special: stylish, collectible, one-of-a-kind art and flair.

Fans who grew up with Sonic—and have since found themselves tapping mana and casting spells—are likely to feel a powerful wave of nostalgia. Whether you plan to actually sleeve these up in your deck or keep them as display pieces, these cards bring a joyful and unexpected energy to the MTG universe.

Launch and Availability

All three Secret Lair x Sonic collections will be available exclusively on MagicSecretLair.com starting July 14 at 9 a.m. PT, while supplies last. As with all Secret Lair drops, once they’re gone, they’re gone—so fans hoping to collect all three sets (especially foil editions) should act fast.
